Saregamapa's only Pakistani female contestant rising controversies

Sara Raza Khan -- 1st and only female contestant from Pakistan to participate in a singing reality show in India is facing flak from muslim community and Pakistani media for being the only girl to be singing on Zee tv. According to her, newspapers are maligning her and her family and people in her community are already ostracizing her for participating and singing on tv for a girl in Pakistan is considered immoral. Sara confirms the news and says, “Ammijaan was a nervous wreck and was not very keen to send me to Mumbai, particularly because of the kind of clothes the women need to wear in front of the camera.” An insider from Zee TV says, “It’s true that girls are made to wear sexy outfits on shows. The glamour quotient is important. Today’s girls have no problems, but there was an issue when we finished with the audition of Sara. She is a fine singer and we selected her, but she said that she will not indulge in body exposure.” Sara adds, “I am not going to wear any sleeveless outfits or short dresses. And I will never drop the dupatta while doing the show. I must add that the scene is different in Pakistan; there people don’t appreciate someone singing in reality shows. Though gradually they are coming around.” Sara, who is from Lakshya Gharana of Shankar Mahadevan, also did not want to say ‘Har Har Mahadev’, which is the slogan of her gharana. The project head of the show Santosh Shende says, “Yes, Sara didn’t want to say, ‘Har har Mahadev’. But I guess she didn’t know the meaning of the words. And yes, we did explain to her that it simply means ‘God is one’.” ~~~ it's 2008, and seems like Pakistan is still living in dark ages.

Whats wrong with either of those statements?? I can safely say a girl from Bihar will have the same issues. Not every town in India is a Mumbai where girls walk in skirts, heck even in the towns where girls do walk in skirts they get eve-teased. You are free to walk in a medium size town in Bihar, UP, Orissa etc etc and see how many wear jeans even. Much less what they show people wearing on TV. And the ZEE TV itself says girls are supposed to wear sexy outfits, so if someone has an issue with it whats the big deal??

Where exactly has she even uttered the word Indian??? At best she has said people dont appreciate Reality shows in Pakistan while India is more accomodating. I am sick and tired of people coming to Indian shows and objecting to this that .....If it is against your values....don't take part.Period. This is not the first time it has happened. It is programme based on Indian film songs(mostly).When you decide to take part ,you know that you will be expected to sing all kind of songs. Indian contestents sing all kind of devotional songs. This includes Indian muslims. Hindus sing songs in devotion to sufi saints. Some times they are expected to sing "desh bhakti" songs. Why do you come here to take part when you know you will be expected to sing devotional ,and indian patriotic songs? If you have objections to that ...don't take part in these reality shows. Every year it is someone objecting to something. This is a reality show where you are competing ....you don't have the right to choose. This is a programme where religion or natinal identity should not be made an issue. Indian muslims sing all kind of songs.Indians of others religions do the same. Don't come here and make issues out of things that are nonissues atleast in the entertainment sector.

Yes, that's what she says. She basically means that a sleevless dress or a dress without a dupatta is scantily clad. I have no problems with that, but she should not have been vocal about it in a negative way. She is talking as if Indian television is a pornographic industry. Stay home if you have so much problem.

And I am sick and tired of Indians getting nauseatingly defensive about everything Indian from Shilpa Shetty, Harbhajan Singh to Zee TV Saregamapa. Reality check time, this girl is singing in Saregamapa because she is better than other singing talents. Zee TV scouts found it better than other talents and so she is there. Get used to it.

No it is not. This is where half-baked knowledge is so dangerous. This programme has always been about music. The best phase of Saregamapa was during the days of Sonu Nigham when it was frequented by stalwarts of Indian music, and specially classical music. Today's version is very corrupted version and but for Aditya Narayan/Shaan compereship it would have gone to the dogs.

Do you remember the girl Mauli Dave?? Wasnt she last year parading in dresses who could easily be called skimy if not ****ty?? I will bet you my bottom dollar she would never have made it to the days of Sonu Nigham days when Smriti Chauhan was winning the show. So yeah there are certainly occassions when contestants wear objectional dresses.

No it doesnt. What it means is that YOU are taking it personal. Nowhere is she on record saying women who dont wear sleeves are not honorable. You have just assumed, for your own personal reasons and then went on to justify it. Lets keep it simple - Show me where she says that people who wear skirts are not honorable.

It is just like the so called hijabis who think they are more honerable than women who don't wear one.
