Mumbai/Jaipur: A fresh battle is breaking out at the top of Indian cricket a day ahead of the all-important Annual General Meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Lalit Modi, the head of the Indian Premier League and possibly the most important man in Indian cricket, is being accused of unfairly "favouring" the Australian team, as the visitors acclimatise themselves with customised practice facilities at the Rajasthan Cricket Association's Future Cricket Academy. It is learnt that the RCA would be reprimanded by the BCCI when the Board gets together for its AGM in Mumbai. This after CNN-IBN broke the story of the superb facilities being rolled out for the Aussies in Jaipur. And the BCCI didn't mince words when they reacted to the issue. "We won't get this kind of facilities if India went abroad, we would have got the bare minimum. RCA is being a little too obliging to the Australian team, they have done more than what a host country will do," Prof Ratnakar Shetty had said. It is learnt that Modi was rung up by BCCI President Sharad Pawar on Thursday night who told him that a section of the board wanted Modi to be reprimanded for this when the board holds its AGM on Saturday. During the meeting, Modi will be asked to give an official explanation and questions will be raised of whether he has any "special" links with the Australians. He will also be officially reprimanded according to sources. While the objective of playing friendly hosts has landed the RCA in a spot, the man behind the scenes rubbished all such talk. The BCCI vice-president and RCA supremo has come out in defence of his Association to provide such top-class facilities to the Aussies. "Why look at it in the way that we are giving them facilities? Why not look at it the other way round? I am getting an opportunity for my Rajasthan boys to be practising with one of the best teams in the world, free of cost," Modi retorted. "They have come here, they are our guests. And at the same time, our boys are getting the practice that is needed for their Ranji Trophy or the domestic season going forward," he added. http://www.cricketnext.com/news/bcci-set-to-haul-up-modi-during-agm/34337-13.html

Indian players allowed to play in Oz T20 League Melbourne, September 26: India will have no objections if their star players take part in a proposed IPL-style Twenty20 league in Australia from next year. Cricket Australia has plans of starting a high-profile Twenty20 League of its own and has approached the BCCI to allow its players for the event. IPL Commissioner and BCCI Vice-President Lalit Modi, who is closely watching the developments on this front, said he had already cleared top Indian cricketers to play for Australian state teams if they wanted to. http://www.indianexpress.com/news/indian-players-allowed-to-play-in-oz-t20-l.../366288/ "We are keenly watching that and are most supportive of that. The Australian Cricket board has been most supportive of the Indian cricket board," Modi was quoted as saying by the 'Herald Sun' on Friday. "They have asked us already if we would release our players for that and we said, yes, we would release our players for that. They have been gracious enough to release their players for us," he added. Modi said the revamped Australian competition could feature teams in a traditional state format or see them owned privately, but salary caps are unlikely to compare to the IPL. "It may not be on the same scale as the IPL. It may not be eight, 10 or 12 teams, but it may be six teams in Australia... We understand they are looking at a franchise model, developing other models, too," he said. Modi scoffed at suggestions that the BCCI was a superpower just because it generates about 80 per cent of the game's revenue. "Just because our market is dictating we get a higher price, it doesn't mean we rule the world. You have to keep in mind we have a billion people, you have 16-18 million," he said.
