Impressive (and to the chagrin of the spectators) displays of affection

a very good friend of mine is helping her to be brother in law arrange a rather extensive ceremony for proposing to her sister which involves a serene lake, a rose petal strewn gazebo in the middle of the lake and a rather expensive stone. while i was not impressed by this display of karan johar romanticism as it does not penetrate my dysfunctional psyche, i do feel that the bar has been set quite high for me now and it is a cause for concern. not only must this be outdone, but it ought to be original, and it will be an endeavor in which i might not enjoy the benefit of the opinion of the other gender. quite frankly i dislike people who seem to engage in such cliche displays of affection that somehow eclipse the other disharmonies of their relationship and might overshadow the otherwise harmonies of the relationships of the envious spectators. and this at the heels of a television news anchor proposing to his girl friend, a news anchor herself at another network on live television and further fudging things for the rest of us. hence, i suggest the formation of a regulatory body: the Department of Marriage Proposals. This department will regulate and stipulate the circumstances under which people might propose to each other and they must reimburse the public for any overwhelming displays of affection and romance. Thus ensuring that our relationships will forever be judged for their content on a day to day basis rather than singular displays of unoriginal resourcefulness. (yes i am drunk and frack you too)

Sheesh...what a tamaasha. Pains me to see so much tamaasha and show-off-ism in our culture when it comes to marriage or affections... A semi-expensive stone is as far as i will go....a lake, rose petal strewn gazebo in the middle ?!? If my girl actually wants that, its break-up time then and there, right on the spot ! I have no time for such nautaanki that masquerades as affection. People who are into such meaningless display of emotion needs to take a good hard look at themselves and wonder just where exactly did they lose themselves in this meaningless idiocy that is a waste of money, time and if anyting, proves how much of a materialistic flake the person is (who is turned on/impressed by such nonsense). You want a real taste of displaying affection ? how about buying her her dream trip to wherever ? or making/finding her favourite doll/toy that broke ? or capturing her picture in an unique day-to-day pose, then getting your artist friend (if you lack any sort of talent with the brush, like me) to make a guash-on-canvas stencil of her ? There are a million-and-one display of affection that is more subtle, mind & emotion stimulating and original than this stupid, expensive, flaky display of affection at the price that'd feed a 100 poor people in our cities for a whole month! If i ever became a terrorist, it'd be if ***** like this became prevalent and pervasive....

Since when has this become a part of our culture?
Since Shah Rukh & salmaan started this culture of stupidly show-offy 'i love you' manuevers in bollywood that so many of our brainless youths emulate.

I don't think people do that in real life. Most people in our culture don't propose marriage. Their parents do it for them ,in the most unromantic way:-D!
