bharat297 Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 It is a team game but if you look at what each player scored ... * Laxman after tea scored 40 runs from 49 balls @ 82 * Tendulkar after tea scored 29 runs from 36 balls @ 81 Thats not a huge difference. Also the fact that after a message was passed out from the captain (possibly telling Sachin to get a move on) he didnt even get a chance on strike. The other issue to look at was at the time Tendulkar was about to equal Dravid (and Sunny) for the most double centuries by an Indian. Dravid later in the series scored a double-ton of his own , at a slightly slower strike rate than Tendulkar. All in all, another 6 runs for a friend would not have hurt the team. Would Dravid have declared if he were on 194? If Sachin was on say 180 its understandable. But 6 runs would have been 10-15 mins at the most, and would not have hurt the team.

Well SRT scored 194 runs for the team, but he should have gotten some time to score 6 runs for himself because scoring 200 vs Pakistan in Pakistan is once in a while chance. RD's decision was a horrible decision and SRT had all the rights of being upset.

Could not agree with you more..that day Sach was not getting a move on and Dravid had no option other than to declare..in the end we won with almost a day to spare !! I like Rahul Dravid very much as a batsman (he has been one of our best batsmen of all time) but it does seem suspicious that at a time when Sachin was on 194* ... Rahul Dravid (of all people) all of a sudden decided that the run rate was a factor. This is the same guy that on 9/520 in Adelaide on the 4th day in 2003 (when it was Indias 1st innings) would not take singles until the last ball of the over to prolong the outcome.

Not Well timed ??? thats in hindsight, what if pakistan would have been 9 down at the end of day 5, would we be saying the same thing

Sachin was pretty much scoring at a run a ball after tea anyway so 30 minutes before would have meant he was on maybe 180-185 and it wouldnt be as bad. The declaration could have been earlier if India were that worried about time. You dont wait till he is on 194 , then send a message out for him to hurry up and not even give him a chance to get on strike. Its extremely strange that Dravid (or Ganguly, whoever decided it) of all people suddenly became worried about the run rate. Where was this during the Test in Adelaide in 2003?
