Fontaine
Well done KP. It's refreshing to see a captain actually congratulate and praise the other side when he knows his team has been beaten, instead of blaming the sight screens, the pitches, the weather, and whining about other nonsense. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/cricket/international/england/3458066/England-captain-Kevin-Pietersen-praises-India-after-heavy-defeat-Cricket.html The tourists never looked like chasing down their victory target after India posted 387 for five - inspired by an unbeaten 138 from Yuvraj Singh and 85 from Virender Sehwag. England slumped to 229 all out from just 37.4 overs. "If you stand and watch an innings like Yuvraj played and Sehwag, you have just got to take your hat off to the way they played," Pietersen said. "It's an amazing batting pitch. You just need to touch it and it goes for four... and a bit harder and it goes for six." Pietersen and his troops will now analyse where they went wrong ahead of the second ODI in Indore on Monday. "We'll sit down and see where we made a few mistakes," he said. "But if a bloke (Yuvraj) plays like that you're behind the game straight away. It was a bit of a licence to go out and enjoy yourself. You've got to say well done, they played super cricket today. "You've got to try to make sure you go over what you've done not so well and regroup. There's six games left in the series and we want to bring some real good cricket to Indore." India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was delighted with such an emphatic opening victory. "It was critical to start on a good note. We lost the toss but we also wanted to field," he said. "We bowled brilliantly and we knew the (England) batsmen had to take risks. We bowled in the right areas. "On a day like this I don't think the opposition could do much (about Yuvraj). He was batting at his best. Everybody chipped in, but Yuvraj stood out." Man of the match, Yuvraj's whirlwind 138 came off only 78 balls, with only a battling 63 from Pietersen and a half-century from Ravi Bopara preventing England from slumping to their heaviest ever defeat batting second in an ODI. Admitting it was one of the best innings of his career, 26-year-old Yuvraj said: "I've had a couple of bad months with not being in the Test side. But I am coming back to my best and to hit a knock like that was a good effort. "It was one of my best innings in one-day cricket. Link to comment
cochise
To be fair, Ponting also gave a gracious speech at the end of the test series... Link to comment
Fontaine
To be fair' date=' Ponting also gave a gracious speech at the end of the test series...[/quote'] True enough but I was really also talking about guys like Hayden, Katich, etc. I admire the way Peterson went about it which was different than Ponting. He immediately said well done and said we move on the Indore which is the right way to aproach it and something Dhoni does as well. This way it doesn't give your individual players a chance to complain or whine or offer any silly excuses. When the captain comes out and makes an immediate and bold statement like that then the players have to follow. Link to comment
King Tendulkar
To be fair KP is not a total knob like ponting. KP when he got out walked up the stairs and ruffled yuvis hair. Small thing but it shows he is not a psycho like Ponting. Also had a luagh with sehwag and punched sehwag in the arm, jokey of course:--D So gald those aussies are out of the country. Even the english seem great after those knobs! Link to comment
cochise
Yeah...KP is a likeable bloke and a good sport...no question...and a very exciting batsman too.... Link to comment

Dinx - the Jinx
Yup.. have to agree that KP did a nice post match interview. Had it been Ponting -this is how it would have gone... (assuming MSD won the toss and batted first) Ponting: Well... we lost the game coz we lost the toss upfront. If we had won the toss and batted first, we would have got a similar score and India would have found it difficult to chase it down. There is something wrong with the coins that are used in the Third World Countries, I dont get the 'call' right at all. I spent about half an hour practicing my calling i.e after Sourav gave me the chance to use the nets after I had to wait for nearly 45 minutes. Also the Politicians in the Third World Country are so stupid that they come and sit right next to the sight screen and their security men refuse to budge from the sight screen, wasting a lot of time for us. I think the match refree is going to call me to his office and punish me with a 20% slap for no mistake of mine... well.. we have bribed him only to let pass our sledging and provocating the opponent. Slow over rates have not been included in the bribery agreement and am sure CA will take care of that next time around. But for the moment, I have to deal with it. Yuvi played well for his 138, but I think he is not good enough to play test cricket (blatant sledge in the media). In the next 2 days we are going to practice hard under Guru Greg's supervision and we'll unleash our new-age cricket in the next game. Sorry folks - I think I started blabbering again, talking crap and wasting your time. I have an appointment with the refreee and I dont want to be pulled up again for slow rate in answering questions in the press conference. See you. Link to comment
flamy
KP is a lesser version of Dhoni. Would be interesting how this series goes... Link to comment

h4te
kevin p.: wtf? Here's Pietersen: "We had a chance at 29 for 3. We lost ourselves to Yuvraj. He was fantastic. We improved from the last game. Let's hope we improve more. We need to carry on our good start with the ball. One of the top five should have gone on to a big score. I don't think we missed a specialist spinner. Samit bowled ok. I bowled five overs of rubbish." SR Patel 5 0 37 0 7.40 vs. KP Pietersen 5 0 20 1 4.00 how is 5/20/1 rubbish???
