Cricket Australia is investigating an incident surrounding Andrew Symonds after he was allegedly involved in a physical confrontation in a Brisbane hotel on Sunday night. The Sydney Morning Herald reported that the altercation between Symonds and a member of the public occurred when the allrounder was drinking with players in the Australian rugby league side following the cricket team's 149-run win in the first Test against New Zealand at the Gabba. The match was Symonds' first one back following a suspension for going fishing before the one-day series against Bangladesh in August instead of attending a team meeting. Symonds underwent psychological help during the two-month break from the game and returned knowing he was on his last chance. Symonds must now wait on the outcome of Cricket Australia's investigation and it is likely the only way he can escape another ban - or at worst the loss of his lucrative contract - is if the altercation was started by the member of the public. In the lead-up to first Test Symonds admitted he had being drinking too much before the Darwin incident. © Cricinfo -=================================================================- Boohooo...CA did not support me during the monkey gate saga...so Im gonna drink more and piss all over the world. Try and stop me :hysterical:

New threat to Andrew Symonds's career http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2008/11/24/1227491446270.html The international career of Andrew Symonds could hang in the balance after the all-rounder was allegedly involved in a physical altercation at a Brisbane pub. Symonds was understood to have been drinking at the popular Normanby Hotel in Red Hill with several members of the Australian rugby league team when the fight commenced. The incident is believed to have occurred on Sunday evening, some 12 hours after the Australian cricket team sealed a 149-run victory over New Zealand in the first Test at the Gabba, and involved a confrontation between Symonds and a member of the public. Cricket Australia was aware of the incident last night, and was seeking further information on the matter. The board could be presented with a difficult decision, given Symonds had only recently returned from suspension and was on his last warning. Symonds last week spoke on Channel Nine about his expulsion from the Australian one-day squad in Darwin following his much-publicised fishing excursion. He also referred to his rehabilitation program under the eye of Brisbane sports psychologist Phil Jauncey, and admitted alcohol had contributed to his poor off-field attitude. It is unknown whether Symonds was provoked on Sunday night, or whether he instigated the altercation. The Australian all-rounder recently told The Age of a "traperazzi" scheme during the 2007 World Cup in the Caribbean, in which one member of the public slapped him across the face while another stood nearby photographing the incident. CA now faces a complex and potentially far-reaching decision in the coming days. The board's most extreme course of action would be to shred the remainder of Symonds' contract, given that he was on a last warning following the Darwin incident. But the all-rounder could be offered a reprieve if he is found not to have instigated the fight. Symonds cancelled a planned fishing trip :omg: yesterday and declined an interview to spend time with his partner. :secret:

I Say...whoever would pick a fight with Symonds hanging around with part of the rugby league team of Oz must be some kind of champion...those league boys are no pushovers ya know...and Symonds is not exactly scrawny either. Hmmm...or is it the other way around, that he picked the fight? Seems more likely doesn't it? We have seen him push his weight around when the backing is there (remember the naked guy he totalled when half the security were after him in the stadium? I thought it was totally unnecessary to do that.) We will just have to wait and see. Benefit of the doubt till then.

Symonds, by his own admission, has admitted he has had a problem with alcohol. Now why is he putting himself into these situations (going to a pub to drink). He is playing with fire here.
I wouldn't take all admissions that are career rescuing too seriously...nor the so-called counselling...they are basically formal tosh. Tick of the checklist of things to do and say to please the authorities and get back into the side. That's all.

Symonds probably in the clear...didn't want to hug and take pic with fan, that's all apparently: http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2008/11/24/1227491458138.html

"A patron at the hotel attempted to hug and take a picture of Andrew Symonds while he was at the hotel on Sunday night," the hotel's manager Mark Lassman said in a statement. "Symonds declined the invitation, further to that the member of the public continued to harass Symonds. "Security guards then asked the patron to leave for inappropriate behaviour." Mr Lassman said the incident "was a non-issue and sportsmen are sometimes put in a situation that is entirely not of their doing".

Remember the story of the liar who called wolf too many times and when the wolf actually came' date=' no one believed him?[/quote'] That is fine. My only thing is that its not fair to jump to conclusions and criticize someone without fully knowing what actually happened, as we see below.

Aussie Symonds cleared after run-in with punter in Brisbane hotel article-0-02A077C900000578-712_87x84.jpg Australia all-rounder Andrew Symonds has been cleared of any wrongdoing following an altercation with a member of the public at a Brisbane hotel on Sunday night.463947762More... Aussie Symonds cleared after run-in with punter in Brisbane hotel By Sportsmail Reporter Last updated at 2:43 PM on 24th November 2008 Australia all-rounder Andrew Symonds has been cleared of any wrongdoing following an altercation with a member of the public at a Brisbane hotel last night. Symonds was believed to be drinking with team-mates and some Australia rugby league players when the incident occurred, around 12 hours after the 149-run victory over New Zealand in the first Test. Cricket Australia are looking into the reports but Mark Lassman, manager of the Normanby Hotel in Red Hill, claims Symonds was not at fault. Cleared: Symonds He said in a statement: 'This is one situation that neither got out of hand, nor was Andrew's or the hotel's fault. 'It's disappointing that sportsmen cannot socialise without being harassed. 'Andrew did nothing wrong and it's disappointing it's been reported in an ambiguous manner.' Lassman added: 'A patron at the hotel attempted to hug and take a picture of Andrew Symonds while he was at the hotel on Sunday night. 'Symonds declined the invitation, further to that the member of the public continued to harass Symonds. 'Security guards then asked the patron to leave for inappropriate behaviour.' Symonds also insisted he was merely a victim of circumstance. He told the Brisbane Times: 'A member of the public acted unreasonably towards me while I was with friends, at which time I took steps to remove myself from the situation. 'The member of the public was subsequently removed from the premises as a result of his actions. 'I was sharing some drinks with other players and close friends and did not in any way provoke this situation. 'I would also like to take the opportunity to clarify reports last week that I am being treated for alcohol addiction. I am being treated for a stress-related illness and I remain committed to dealing with these issues.' Cricket Australia confirmed they would nevertheless be investigating the incident. 'At the moment we're gathering more information, we want to better understand the situation,' a CA spokesman said. 'As we understand it, the member of the public approached Andrew and there was an altercation after which the member was ejected by hotel security. 'Andrew was back at the team hotel by 9.30 or 10.00. Some other Australian cricketers were at the bar and we need to speak to those players to gather more information.' Last night's incident comes just after Symonds had been recalled to the side after being banished from national duty for electing to go fishing in Darwin ahead of a team meeting before a one-day international against Bangladesh. Symonds was chosen for the first Test despite poor form in domestic cricket but made little impression in making just 26 and 20 and failing to take a wicket. Despite that, he has been retained in the Australia team for the second Test - which starts in Adelaide on Friday - at the expense of fellow all-rounder Shane Watson. Watson also struggled in Brisbane but performed well in place of Symonds on the recent Test tour of India.

Hello? wat dis? http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,24701085-10389,00.html

YOU have reached the end of the road as a dignified sportsman when rugby league players steer clear of you because you are too much trouble. It happened to Andrew Symonds at the Normanby Hotel on Sunday when several Kangaroo players decided Symonds was an incident waiting to happen and moved on to other company. Being brushed by league players because they deem you "too loud and arrogant" is like being taunted by Warwick Capper because your pants are too tight. It just doesn't get any worse than that ... the final indignity for an arrogant, reckless man who refused to learn from his lessons. Of course the Normanby Hotel went into predictable damage control mode last night, falling over themselves to defend Symonds. But that's beside the point. Precisely a week ago Symonds was telling the world on Channel 9 how some of his problems were caused by too much drinking. And now this. Symonds's statement released last night portrayed him as the victim. Is he ever guilty? Cricket Australia have had just about enough of Symonds. The selectors love him. Other CA officials feel he is arrogant, ignorant and incapable of learning. Why is it that Mark and Steve Waugh could spend about 35 years collectively on tour and not become involved in one bar-room incident, yet Symonds gets into trouble almost as a matter of course? His latest incident may not be the crime of the century but it is just another example of how his manners can be cringingly bad at times. Teammates wince at how rudely he dismisses people. It has been happening for years. What this incident does expose is the ineffectiveness of the rehabilitation program he went on after being sent home from the series against Bangladesh in Darwin. It's a shame that, instead of asking these so-called mental giants in charge of assessing Symonds's condition whether he was ready, they didn't simply quiz some of his Queensland Bulls teammates about his state of mind. A common line from them over the past two months in private has been "Roy's head is just not there ... he is nowhere near ready to come back". Cricket Australia has treated a mental illness like a physical injury and rushed him back to a hero's welcome. It was a bad call. One Bulls player said last night: "I suppose it's not a major shock. Roy really struggles with the whole fame thing. He's great with his mates but very short and dismissive with others." Early this season there was an auction for a day's fishing with Symonds. It fetched $8000 from - wait for it - Symonds himself who was relieved that he could go by himself. Clearly he is uncomfortable with his level of fame and would be just as happy in his own company.
