Rajiv Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 One of the viewers on the street said we should make compulsory courses in military training so atleast people can save themselves instead of this dump of a govt This statement striked me a lot, even if we have this type of training - can the public fight these people bare handed? What type of training is given? Also, is it time when middle class man and go buy a gun ( with license offcourse ) for his protection
Mr. Wicket Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Nope. Military training doesn't prepare people to fight nutcases who'll go to extremes like blowing themselves up just to make a point. Military training trains people to handle themselves in more open combat, but when sick extremists will take hostages, prepare ambushes with AK-47s and grenades and commit mass murder for the sake of mass murder, it won't be that effective. And for guns - I don't think it's a good idea. Just look at a lot of the messes in the USA that have occurred thanks to the wrong people getting guns. In India, where there are far more extreme rogue elements out on the streets - look at the amount of fundamentalists around who'd happily shed blood in a slight disagreement - and a far bigger population to police and worry about, it's just asking for trouble.
Desi Cartman Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 its useful for countries that do not have enough people willing to join armed forces. We have so many unemployed educated people who are willing to join armed forces so why should we make it compulsory ? Also, its Govt's duty to manage Police n army to protect citizens.
THX_1138 Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 this is the slippery slope of mandatory service in the armed forced for all individuals at a certain age. i am not supportive of this, and instead of the massive resources spent into training a the millions who would qualify for this service/training on an annual basis, our resources are better spent in attaining a level of preparedness for disasters. i was absolutely stunned when i learnt that the NSG does not have a regional command or that they are not equipped with a plane large enough to transport 200 odd men with their gear. had i been in any position of power in new delhi, at the first news of an attack i would have rushed the NSG to the Indira gandhi airport, commandered a large jet, put the commandos on the jet, maybe two, and flown them to bombay where i would have expected the authorities to arrange for air lifting the men from the airport to the attack site. now its not that this has not occured to anyone, its just that we dont have anyone courageous enough to take such bold steps, and they prefer to play it safe and easy with their careers at the expense of the masses.
Lurker Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 One of the viewers on the street said we should make compulsory courses in military training so atleast people can save themselves instead of this dump of a govt As a Mumbai mafia member once told me - In a restaurant I never sit in a place from where I couldnt see people walk in. Only experience can teach you how to react in certain situations. Army training not only trains you to use guns and grenades, it also trains you how to react in situations of combat. I am sure you have read of how 5 South African Security commando helped save over a hundred life thanks to their training. They did not even get caught in the encounter but ensured that none of the people they were with could be taken a hostage. I am all for Military training. Personally because I feel this would single handedly whip up Indians in shape, no small thing for a culture that is based on how rich people are also on the "healthier" side. What it will also instil is a good sense of discipline and the ability to be prepared for situations like this. I mean if terrorism is the reality of our era shouldnt we be prepared to handle it on a personal level if we run into the scenario? xxx
fineleg Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 it took 4 hours + to get an airplane for the commandos. Take a passenger jet as emergency like u said. but stupid Shivraj Patil and Aviation Minister cannot be bothered.
Guest dada_rocks Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 For instance public certainly blow all the simi offices into pieces if it decides too....You don't need weapons for that just walk in large number.. Even in thsi case 100+ people were held hostage by two mofos if govt is to be believed heck no matter what gin these guys have if those 100 decide to overwhelm them then I am at cost of ten twnty lives those mofos cud be overpowered alive...
Cricketics Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 in other words, people want to go the Israel Way. after graduation from school, each and every Israeli has to go through atleast a year of training in the militry i think. but do we have the set up for that? nope. we have big big cities. we have money to host and bid for olympics then we surely do have money to have a set up in each and every city in INdia where people can be trained for military.

Most of the europe too has this rule.. Even in switzerland they have this rule.. I wud have loved it.. I tried my best but they didn't induct me

Exactly. The costs of enrolling, training, etc an entire generation of teenagers would probably bankrupt the government not to mention divert huge sums of money from the already discussed essential improvements needed in intelligence, military and anti terrorist equipment, stricter border control on land and sea etc.
Guest dada_rocks Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Exactly. Money can be raised if India decides to it cud be easily public funded.. all one needs is a vision and determination.. Today everyone is shouting against failure of govt machinery I am sure if asked people will contrinbute to this project for larger good of society
veer Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I was just thinking yesterday that we are known for the ''land of engineers'' then why did nt we have anything like robots to view those terrorists.. dont know whats the word.. but you can easily have robots with vision going into each floor and see where exactly culprits are hiding.. you can then better plan your attack.. arm the millitary with these kinda tools .. Currently, India is behind couple of steps of terrorists... we gotta stay ahead of them..
gs Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 NCC should be made compulsory. If needed, include it as a part of college curriculum.
Cricketics Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 no one is asking each and every person to be trained as in a way that he can use a "AK-47" with ease, one is asking for a training to protect himself. When the terroristani is approaching you, you won't have any gun or grenade with you, one would need something special to avoid the situation and save his life.. hence the military training
triam Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Create something like NSG (National Security Guard) which should be completely voluntary, anybody can sign in, after the initial training for a period of 3 months, these people can go to their daily lives, with an annual or semi annual training of 2 weeks or so. Have a secure arms cachet in every big city and definitely in each state, in case of emergencies these NSG's can get the weapons from the cachet. The NSG can also get trained in disaster assistance and things like that so that in case of emergency floods or fires these volunteers can do something about it.

Yeah, I also thought of this, robots could be used to gather some basic reconnaissance of the situation. Now imagine if these robots could be mounted on each floor ceiling after surveying the floors. It would have given such an advantage with live video of the current situation IMO. In this case, even if the robots werent available, some wireless cameras could've been mounted on each floor. That would have been very advantageous.

These DO exist and could have saved a lot more lives if India had these.

NSG had those x-ray tools.. cuz they said at the end that hostages need to open curtains so we can see them.. but for that commandos had to handle those machines... what I am saying that they need robotic x-ray machines which can go in and send visuals in command center..
Guest dada_rocks Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 We and it cud be easily funded just remove all the politicians in delhi form their 2 acre each bungalow and put them in apartment complext.. policing becomes easy and you can sell those prime land in open market to raise fund for these things..
