But before I got my results, (director) Teja offered me my first film Jayam, in Telugu. I was skeptical about the language at first because I didn't know Telugu. But I've always wanted to act, so I took it up. After the film released, I received Filmfare's Best Actress Award. My life changed after that. I did over 20 films. The most successful one was Shankar's Anniyan, later dubbed in Hindi as Aparachit. What is Khalbali about? It is a remake of a Telugu hit. It's a romantic comedy. Nikhil Dwivedi (who starred in Anthony Kaun Hai) loves someone and elopes with her. Her parents are goons, and the search to find them begins. I play the girl's friend. Do you think skin show is important to make it big? For me, performance matters the most. Of course, you have to look good, you have to look glamourous and be a sellable factor. But at the end of the day, what matters is the special thing in you to pull off a character. You should be able to convince the audience that you are the character you are playing. Skin show is important but not the most important factor. If you were offered a bold role, which required a lot of skin show, would you take it up? I will decide to what extent the skin show will be. There are things I will not be comfortable doing. I have rejected scripts if I wasn't comfortable exposing or doing an intimate scene. I am very clear as to how I want to see myself on screen. You're doing a comedy film. Do you have a funny bone in you? No. I make people laugh at times but that is always out of innocence or ignorance. But I would definitely want to do an out and out comic role. That's the most difficult emotion to portray.
