fineleg Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I think its safe to say we've found the replacement for Rahul Dravid. Salil or MM - (i havent seen much of Ajinkya so asking ya'll) - Is AR a technically correct player? Can he take over that mantle from Dravid in future?
flamy Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Salil or MM - (i havent seen much of Ajinkya so asking ya'll) - Is AR a technically correct player? Can he take over that mantle from Dravid in future? thats right. You can start worshiping him.
Mr. Wicket Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 Rahane's fairly sound technically. Good off the back foot, excellent on the front foot against spinners. My concern is a weakness against balls moving away; he has a tendency to drive/play outside the off stump with a very open face when going for his shots. Quite often when he drives the ball will go more in the direction of extra cover than mid off/past the bowler, which looks classy when it comes off - but does create the risk of skewing balls in the air in that direction if there's late swing/movement or nicking a few more than he should.
coffee_rules Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 No. I'm also a New South Wales fan. :--D You must love the Mafia everywhere then!
Mr. Wicket Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 Me, love the Mafia? Heck, for four years I lived about 10 minutes away from the main Italian district of Chicago. :D
fineleg Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 thats right. You can start worshiping him. :finger: i dont worship humans (and srt, dravid, rahane, pujara... all human) Rahane's fairly sound technically. Thanks, Salil. I hope he tightens up these things over time. Seems like an excellent prospect and hope BCCI does some planned transition for him, so he is really ready to wear the cap with the right experience and grooming behind him.
Mr. Wicket Posted February 7, 2009 Author Posted February 7, 2009 They've handled him very well so far, I'm quite impressed. He's been taken through all the proper tracks - lots of U19 cricket for Bombay and India, then forced to really work to earn a Bombay slot and since then he's made big runs (25 matches now, 8 hundreds + a good no of fifties and an average of 62+) while working his way up into the Duleep/BP XI teams. In that time he's really learnt how to build big scores and honed his game in domestics rather than being thrown prematurely into internationals like Rohit was. In fact that flaw in his game I mentioned - it was MUCH more noticeable last year. If you ever watch his innings v. Saurashtra last season and compare with his 85 in the Ranji semi this season, he's tightened up his game a good deal - but the flaw still remains and hopefully he'll correct that with time (or learn to work around it).
amits Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 rahane should replace rohit sharma immediately. there r better mumbai players than the useless rohit sharma
amits Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 @m1t$, read some of my other posts re. Dravid, G@mbh1r, S3hw@g, Jaques, Hughes, Steyn and co. Learning to read first might also help... stop insulting indian cricketers & stop the keyboard abusing :mad::mad:

fineleg Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 eh? where did he insult indian players here!??
Guest whineleg Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 yeah, most people only insult southies. no one inzultz tendulkar despite being a huge failure. he's made a career out of his useless first innings successes and in those ODIs (which are meaningless by definition), through setting up first scores. His record in the chases is terrible and he doesn't even deserve to be in the team. but thatz okay. fineleg and i know who's correct and that the rest of the world is wrong. Bradman was very old when he made thoze commentz about Sachin. So itz not to be conzidered. Anywayz, the point was to say that southies are inzulted, not northies or easties or westies. but i can keep ranting and whining because its the right thing to do under a democracy. its called having a different opinion. @|\/|17$, stop spamming the forumz. you're going against the rulez - oh wait, the rulez aren't consistent, that mod with the brain the size of a pea is not punished for his misdeeds.
The Outsider Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 The Indian batting is not giving me too many jitters even after Dravid, Laxman, and Tendulkar leave - amongst Badrinath, Raina, Rohit, Rahane, Pujara, Kaif, and Nayar I think we should be able to deliver passable replacements. I am really keen on Nayar- he gives us the option of a batsman capable of bowling 10-15 overs of decent seam up stuff during an innings like Ganguly.
amits Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 @salil, u insulted sehwag & gambhir in this thread
Holysmoke Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 fineleg and i know who's correct and that the rest of the world is wrong. Bradman was very old when he made thoze commentz about Sachin. amits Posted February 7, 2009 Posted February 7, 2009 and another 98 with 4 6s for rahane. if the selectors r so much interested in having a mumbai player in the indian team, then they should go for rahane & kick the useless rohit sharma
