Harbhajan Singh (bowling) under the scanner: a.k.a The Spin Crisis

On the contrary there are lots of equal if not better spinners than him who have averaged better in the few matches they played but who have not been given extended runs. Looks like while we are expecting the best from our batsmen and pace bowlers, we are settling for mediocrity in the spin dept.
Exactly!!!
Also note that now we have VERY good pace bowlers, so he has to compete with them for the scalps.
:haha: If he takes wickets when captain gives him the ball, MSD will be happy to bowl him more in India atleast. Bhajji got the ball in 9th over of 1st Inn. He could have given competition to ZK/IS then! Instead we have ZK and IS having the donkey's share of back breaking work given to them in Indian conditions. Kudos to our pacemen.

Why are you basing all this based on one match ?? Your world famous logic at work again ? And "9th over of Ist innings" is ideal time for a spinner to give comptetion to pacers ? Seriously, WOW ? So how did he manage to get all those wickets then and become the second highest wicket taker this year if he is not doing donkey's work ? See the problem in your logic, genius? He repeatedly took top order wickets against Australia, and obviously was the best bowler against SA. In Mohali Vs Australia 2nd innings, he took 3 out of 4 top order wickets.

Despite all the arguments for Harbhajan, we have to recognize that he has been below par in some of the matches that other spinners found a lot in. One of his best performances came during the previous Chennai test against SA in the 2nd innings when he performed on the deadest of dead pitches. But his performance has been off and on. This test match though, he bowled like Panesar - no clue about what to do. He was in his element in Mohali when we played Australia but here, it was a bit shocking watching him bowl the way he did. Perhaps, an off game but though might have had the 2nd highest # of wickets this year, he has had to work a lot harder for them than the other folks - and he has disappointed himself probably because he hasn't put his brain/skill to much use. Otherwise based on some of his "good" performances, he could've gotten a lot more if he had always bowled like that. There was no reason to bowl a negative line against the Englishmen on a dead pitch like this when they weren't scoring very quickly. Even when Hayden/Katich started out extremely well, he got them with his attacking bowling in Mohali. But no questions about his batting/fighting spirit, he has saved our face way too often for a #8 batsman.

thats his problem' date='has played 60 matches, but still doesnt have a clue when put under pressure[/quote'] well sometimes IMO i find that a spinner needs to adjust to a particular pitch..... and also the speed at which you bowl counts... some matches i found him bowling in the 80' km range... thats when he is at his best... but most cases he darts the ball in around 90's ... i get the feeling sometimes he works well with a particular pitch and in other cases he is clueless.......

****ing retarded bowling.Has no guile for a spinner. A machine.
Do me a favor; Scour God's green earth for as long as you can and comeback with the names of 4-5 spinners who have done better than Bhajji in the last year and a half. Look 'round mate. These are tough times for spinners. All over the world, spinners are getting caned, whether it be Monty, Kaneria or Harris. Australia does not even have a spinner.

I'm sorry. What? Look at the batsman who's batting, please if you will. He is the world's #1 ODI bowler and not too far down the charts in the Test rankings. ****ing Graeme Swann has out performed Bhajji on a spinning Chennai pitch in his maiden game. And I thought Harbhajan "was the best spinner out there" and "gives India the advantage" that no one else has. Other spinners maybe less talented (whatever the hell that means) but they try to get wickets. This man is like a bowling machine at the moment. Didn't even try to loop the ball well and slow the pace properly. Firing in darts at 86kmh outside off stump and expects something to happen. Oh, Anil Kumble got a 5-fifer against Australia on a first day Melbourne pitch. Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan has gotten many more impressive performances than Harbhajan. Jason Krezja may have given away the 2nd highest # of runs on debut but he's got 12 wickets to show for it in one match where Harbhajan did what? Jack ****. You should've seen how well Suleiman Benn was bowling against the English recently -on dead pitches to boot.

He is bowling a little better in this session. Some of the balls have been attacking and he successfully induced an edge that was dropped by Dravid.
Bhajji didnt induce the edge...Vettori just guided it there...Dravid didnt see the ball until the last moment (was obstructed by Dhoni's gloves).
