http://content-aus.cricinfo.com/pakvind/content/current/story/382793.html India in Pakistan 2008-09 India call off Pakistan tour on government advice
Cricinfo staff December 18, 2008 The Indian board has called off next year's tour of Pakistan, following a directive from the government that it was not feasible "in the prevailing circumstances". The series was in doubt following deterioration of relations between the two countries, a fallout of the Mumbai attacks which India alleges had links to elements in Pakistan. The only option now to stage the series is to agree on a neutral venue, though a senior BCCI official told Cricinfo it was too early to take that call. "We had asked the government to clear the tour and Pranab Mukherjee, the foreign minister, informed me today that they are not clearing the tour," Rajiv Shukla, the BCCI vice-president, said. "The BCCI had made it clear much earlier that they would go strictly by what the Indian government has to say, and now it's obvious that the tour is off. How can we go against our government's advice?" Shukla said it was too early to say whether the tour would go ahead at a neutral venue. Officials from the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council have already offered to host the series at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, where the England team trained before reaching India for the current two-Test series. The government directive does not come as a surprise, with public opinion in India, as well as that of former cricketers, administrators and politicians, largely against the tour. A series of newspaper reports after the Mumbai attacks quoted government sources as saying the tour would be called off and, last week, India's sports minister, M S Gill, said he was not in favour of the team travelling to Pakistan. However, if the two countries don't arrive at an agreement to proceed with the series at a neutral venue, the BCCI will have to convince the ICC of its reasons not to tour, or pay a hefty fine. In any case, Pakistan's chances of hosting the postponed ICC Champions Trophy next year have been hit hard as its status as the host depended on a security review that was to be conducted during India's visit. India were scheduled to tour Pakistan from January 4-February 20 for three Tests, five ODIs and one Twenty20 international.
These BCCI guys are too much...they still wanted to go???

Dont give too much credence to that statement. Thats just for the media. And reg. the developments, I am bit stumped. How could it be not O.K for us to play Pakistan in Pakistan and yet be O.K for us to play Pakistan in a neutral venue? Someone should tell these idiots at the BCCI that the govt. refused permission not only because the security situation is not favorable, but also because they thought it wouldnt be appropriate to play the Pakistanis in a bilateral series in the backdrop of the Mumbai attacks and the related developments. Essentially, Indian govt. is saying - 'No cricket with Pakistan' and not - 'No cricket with Pakistan in Pakistan' And thats the way it should be. You cant possibly keep pretending that everything is normal and keep playing cricket, when its been proved that time after time, elements with Govt. blessings have been found to support anti-India activities. Condolences to the average Pakistani fan who's got nothing to do with all this really.

Well there moral support for jihadis or total denial and brushing under the carpet for jihadis means that no condolences are due to them. Paks dont seem to want pak to change or believe it should change. So the average pak deserves everything coming to them

Except for the small fact that they are not willing to see the truth. Go have a look at PP and see what 'average Pakistani fan' is thinking.

India in Pakistan 2008-09 Disappointed PCB turns to Sri Lanka Cricinfo staff December 18, 2008 The PCB has expressed its disappointment at the cancellation of India's tour of Pakistan but have at the same time moved on swiftly, making an official request to Sri Lanka to tour in India's place. The BCCI said today that they had received a letter from their government stating that under the current scenario a tour to Pakistan was not feasible, referring to the deterioration in relations between the two countries after the Mumbai attacks, for which India blames elements linked to Pakistan. That left the BCCI with no option but to call the tour off. "We received a note from the BCCI explaining the decision," Saleem Altaf, the PCB's chief operating officer, told Cricinfo. "Obviously we are very disappointed because Pakistan-India is always a major series. They have toured many times since 2004 so it is disappointing that such a major team, with so many superstars, will not be coming." There had been talk of the series being possibly played at a neutral venue in the Middle East, but that scenario has also been ruled out. "Right now, there is no cricket between the two at neutral venues or anywhere,"Altaf said. "We are still on normal terms with the BCCI. This is a decision that was neither in our hands nor theirs." Though the cancellation is a blow and Pakistan will suffer financially after India's pullout, they are at least likely to have some serious cricket to look forward to during that period. Sri Lanka had already publicly expressed their keenness to tour in India's place and with Pakistan now sending an official invite, only logistics remain to be sorted. "We have officially requested Sri Lanka to tour in place of India," Altaf said. "They had expressed an interest and we are confident the series can go ahead." TV rights for Sri Lanka's visit will not be as high as that for India, but as Pakistan have gone for over a year without a Test, playing any cricket is currently the key. If Sri Lanka do come, it will be for a series of three Tests, three ODIs and one Twenty20 international. They can only arrive after January 16 for they are on a tour of Bangladesh till then. The matches are likely to be held in Karachi, Lahore and Multan.
It's fully off, neutral venue or not. Lankan's have been invited...let's see if they go...

You speak to the average pak/muslim they think 9/11 was done by Bush or the Jews. Let alone would they believe that pak could do such terrorist acts. Then after denying any possible involvement then they actually support jihadi action and support terrorist action against India. There BS means the average pak deserves all that he is getting.

Breaking : Sources have revealed it was Tendulkar who spoke with Sharad Pawar and Pranab Mukherjee to have the tour canceled. The meeting which took place in Delhi, where Tendulkar stopped on the way to Mohali for the second test, was called by Tendulkar. Apparently, the famous Indian batsman was scared of facing the Pakistani fast bowlers yet again in his career. This had happened for a number of years when Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis were at their peaks too. Seeing that Pakistan will be fielding the famous DAAG(Danish/Akhtar/Asif/Gul) attack for the first time in history and as a sign of their continued dominance in world cricket, Tendulkar is said to have spoken with Pawar and Mukherjee using all his mafia skills to call off the tour.

:two_thumbs_up::two_thumbs_up: Canceling tours is fine, but until the politicians change their policies to be more realistic, it won't solve the real problems

Average paki supports terrorists in J&K. Average paki believes Dawood and all other terrorists who attack India are actually warriors fighting hindus ... Average paki attends the rallies called by terrorists who were released by India ... average paki also gives chanda when JeT beggars come to town, an avg paki still reminds an avg Indian about the number of soldiers killed in Kargil and avg paki still believes that latest attacks in Mumbai were carried out by Indians to blame pakis ..ofcourse it doesn't mean ALL but most of them.

You guys speak as though as every Pakistani either overtly or covertly supports terrorism. Thats a gross exaggeration. A vast majority of them are normal people, just like all of us, leading normal boring lives. Sure, most of them hate us, but its not like we love them beyond words or anything. Anyways, didnt want to sidetrack the thread.:D Good news is, the players will get more rest. All the more reason to look forward to next year's cricket.:yay:

Not all but big majority. Do a poll in paksitan, heck polls in UK show muslims in uk support terrorism, just imagine what they feel in pak. You dont get it MM they actually supprt and condone their jihadi heroes. Most common name given in pakistan to a boy in 2005 or 2006 cant quite remember was OSAMA. Do i need to say more or is it just a coincidence. This is the avergae pak naming their children after a lunatic. Not many germans name their kids adolf.
