Fontaine Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Fontaine...why are you so anti-Sree? Just asking...don't you see his potential? I'm not anti-Sreesanth. I'm anti anything that brings down the high standards of the Indian Cricket team right now and Sreesanth is exactly that. You know what kind of message it sends to other players when someone like Sreesanth gets to walk into a test side? It says, **** you to all the young players who've worked their nuts of all year in FC cricket, putting in the hard yards, it says **** you to all the senior players who work everyday to keep themselves fit and in top shape, because it doesn't matter if you've been injured all year long, haven't played much cricket or haven't put in a good performance for the team because potential is more important than hard work, determination and dedication. Screw that. If Sreesanth has all this potential let him prove it in FC cricket, India A tours until he can get some consistency and recent performances. What are you guys afraid of? If Sreesanth has something special and has potential then he should be decimated batting lineups in FC cricket like Pathan has done this season right? Test and ODI matches are played like chess not checkers where you can just swap in players randomly because they have potential.
cochise Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 He has also proved it with some great performances as noted by Shwetabh...so he is not simply walking into the side...he has some weight behind his selection. Point taken on the others...but that happens a lot with the Indian team...the line up is quite entrenched. Test and ODI matches are playing like chess not checkers where you can just swap in players randomly because they have potential. Proven potential...and yes, it is like chess...which means you have to make strategic moves as well.
Lord Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 I am not trusting anyone rox...I am just giving you perspective on how that incident was viewed outside India. Sreesanth is a very passionate cricketer...he is young and immature and needs to know how to channel it...passion and his ability is the ingredient that can make him a great. He will have learnt a few lessons since the slap and probably from the slap...he needs another chance...India will do well with him firing in the team. but why cant learn that in domestics?he sure is talented, but that cant be the sole criteria for selection.if he really was passionate about his cricket,he would have done the hard yards, worked on his fitness rather than feature on dancing shows.passion is not only what u do after u take a wicket, its how hard u work, sree doesnt seem to be concentrating on that

But I am backing him to come back strong.

Fontaine Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 He has also proved it with some great performances as noted by Shwetabh...so he is not simply walking into the side...he has some weight behind his selection. How long ago was that man? Seriously, you sound desperate when you have to resort to a bowlers standout performance more than two years ago. Proven potential...and yes, it is like chess...which means you have to make strategic moves as well. Yeah I asked you this yesterday. What strategic moves do you have to make to accomodate a Sreesanth in our current bowling line up? Does he use the new ball or is he first change? Do you use him for 5-6 overs as a shock bowler because of his pace, if so who has to bowl more overs then? And what fields does the captain set for him, what bowling plans does Kirsten setup for him etc etc. What's the backup plan when inevitabely this guy goes nuthouse at the crease and starts pie chucking wides and boundary balls?
msb1991 Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 What do you folks make of Dhawal Kulkarni? He gets another good match (5-fer to take them to win). Can he atleast make ODI squad for India? You think he can cut it in Intl cricket? I've seen Dhawal bowl briefly throughout his career and he seems solid. He bowls at a reasonable pace, not rapid but not too slow and appears to rely on seam movement. However, I would not even consider him for ODI cricket at this point in time as he is unproven in ODI cricket with just 8 wickets at 40.12. This is not to say that he won't be good at ODI cricket, but that he just needs to prove himself a bit more. I am one for thinking of different formats quite separately, so his standout FC season would aid his Test selection (but obviously not quite catapult him toward selection yet) but do nothing for ODI considerations.
cochise Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 How long ago was that man? Seriously, you sound desperate when you have to resort to a bowlers standout performance more than two years ago. It forms a backdrop for establishing what he is capable of. Yeah I asked you this yesterday. What strategic moves do you have to make to accomodate a Sreesanth in our current bowling line up? Does he use the new ball or is he first change? It's a tough one. To have the best out of him, he would have to take the new ball. But how to bump Zak or Ishant? First change would have to be the option for the NZ tour at least for him to prove himself...he can still get seam movement and pace even with the older ball in NZ. Do you use him for 5-6 overs as a shock bowler because of his pace, if so who has to bowl more overs then? Depends on the complement and their fitness...however, I would be wanting him to keep his pace up for longer spells....his fitness will be key. And what fields does the captain set for him, what bowling plans does Kirsten setup for him etc etc. Slip heavy and strong offside field but inviting the drive...he will get most of his wickets in the slips from nicked seaming deliveries. What's the backup plan when inevitabely this guy goes nuthouse at the crease and starts pie chucking wides and boundary balls? There is no inevitability about it...and if it does happen, then there is a problem and he has to be taken out of the attack until he regains his composure...just like any other bowler. I just don't see him being that much more prone to this sort of disintegration than any other bowler...I have seen a few bad spells from Ishant and Zak as well in the last two series...but they came back and the team handled it and went on to win.

I agree with alot of the things you've said there. I would just add that there still a month or so till the selection process gets under way for the tour and Sreesanth has that time to impress and show he has improved in several areas. Other than that I hope he takes his career seriously enough to try and get a contract with one of the Kiwi teams in their FC cricket. James Anderson did it last year when he was left out of the original selection and used the opportunity to fly to NZ and really put in some good performances for NZ FC cricket which in turn got him selected to the England Team and he was in very good form there.

Chandan Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 He is just fit from injury...whatever domestic games he can get between now and NZ will determine his selection...if he is bowling badly' date=' he won't make the cut. But I am backing him to come back strong.[/quote'] Looks like selectors agree with you Cochise. They'll be monitoring Sreesanth closely in the Duleep trophy and a strong performance there might put him firmly in the reckoning for NZ tour. Bhajji is back from SA after getting his thigh treated and is raring to go in NZ. If so why did they not give him a place in North Zone team? Is he not fit enough to play just now? RP Singh is at NCA for a rehabilitation stint for his injured shoulder and will miss Duleep trophy. In such a case it'll be interesting to see what attack is chosen for NZ! Zaheer, Ishant and Munaf are certain. Who will be the other two pacers?
The Outsider Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 Encouraging report from his first stint and with SZ gaining a first innings lead he'll get at least one more match : Sreesanth's first bowling stint in the spotlight since last year's IPL was a typically entertaining mix of the sublime and the surreal. One marathon spell before lunch revealed the prodigious swing bowler India fell in love with in Johannesburg 2006. All through, and before and after, were his other trademarks: The over-the-top aggression, the what-was-he-thinking-there antics, the tremendous self-belief. Uttar Pradesh batsman Parvinder Singh was coming off his most successful Ranji season but was made to look completely out of touch. The outswinger was working perfectly, and it had Parvinder feeling for the ball outside off. He was beaten on several occasions before he finally got a healthy edge to S Badrinath who shelled a simple waist-high chance in the slips. Any bowler could be expected to bemoan his luck and curse the fielder, especially one as high-strung as Sreesanth, but there were no theatrics. Later, he explained his composure after the missed chance: "If I get him to edge once, I can get him twice or thrice." In his next over Parvinder, wary of the away-going delivery, was undone by an indipper, rapped on the pads in front of middle. For the 11 overs before lunch it was enthralling stuff. He was bowling to the right-handers from very close to the stumps (so close that he once ran into umpire Suresh Shastri), but against the left-handers he employed a wide-of-the-crease around-the-wicket line. That stemmed the easy runs they were taking off him using the cut, and forced them to play more deliveries as well. The angle also aided his stock ball, the one that darts in towards the left-hander, and a delivery that jagged in sharply got through the defences of the tenacious Shivakant Shukla. At other times he was largely ineffective, unable to extract any movement off the pitch. The pace was also generally low, usually hovering around the 130k mark. There were a few exceptions, such as during his duel with Mohammad Kaif, who was hauling Central out of the hole caused by the failure of the top order. Kaif dispatched him with a pull to the right of mid-on, Sreesanth's reply was a 136kmh bouncer, delievered with a "Let's see you pull that" to the batsman. "I know the pace is still there," Sreesanth said. "I don't want to break down just for the sake of bowling fast. Whenever I gave the effort it's 140-plus." There were other Sreesanth moments. He bowled off an absurdly long run-up, and on one delivery towards the end of the day, he nearly stopped halfway to the crease. Everyone assumed he would walk back to his mark, but amazingly he speeded up again and bowled as if nothing out of the ordinary had occurred. Soon after, a superbly-disguised slower ball got rid of Naman Ojha, giving Sreesanth his third wicket, and also keeping alive South's slim hopes of wresting the first-innings lead. He was pleased with his rhythm after finishing with 3 for 92, and that he had bowled 25 overs in the innings without any sign of his back injury flaring up. Whether that convinces the watching national selectors remains to be seen. http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/duleeptrophy2008-09/content/story/387612.html
Show_stopper Posted January 24, 2009 Posted January 24, 2009 ^ seems to have done alright..but the antics...sigh!! I guess it was too much to hope for.
rkt.india Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Cant we have any new fast bowler from our domestics if SS, RP, PK are not fit like MS Gony, Sudeep Tyagi, Dhaval Kulkarni, Ashok Dinda. Seam movement rather than sheer pace is more effective in New Zealand which Dhaval Kulkarni and Sudeep Tyagi brings in their bowling even tyagi can bowl quite quick in terms of the standards of indian domestic bowlers.
Fontaine Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 I see Sreesanth was full of fail in the second innings.
Desi Cartman Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 LOL @ ^ ... :hysterical: Someone ban him please !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Vignesh Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Then you know very little about bowling in swinging conditions and of Sreesanths previous performances in such conditions. The last two times this guy was bowling for India in swinging conditions Rp Singh/Pathan/Zaheer out bowled him by a mile while Sreesanth was busy experimenting with his delivery action and delivering rubbish. Also where would you have him bowl? At number 3, you know because Sreesanth rarely if ever bowls at number 3. He almost always has to bowl with the new ball because his game is only pace unlike the other bowlers who will have much more variety in NZ. So who would you prefer they took away from the New Ball to accomodate this dancing donkey? Ishant or Zaheer? Hmm . . . ? Guys Some one Please explain to me WHO IN THE BLUE HELL THIS WHITE POPCORN FA*T is? Where ever i have seen his posts it has been in a negative sense. Man R U RETARD?
