Anyone seen 300? 300 is like a 2hr advertisement for some homo erotic pornographic bondage session, or at least, thats the impression I got when I saw 300 greasy buffed up guys shining like 24 carat gold biscuits throughout the movie -> supposedly, this nonsense is based on a comic book, which was based on real events .... *shakes head*

He has acted tremendously well in that role. Its a cameo and its not remembered very well. But lately, yeah - watching his movie is like a horror movie - you don't know whether you'll come back the same way you went in. With regards to the Rajnikanth comment, his charisma and popularity in Tamil Nadu is such that, some of those scenes are not considered exaggerated by the audience. The "jump" in Chandramukhi comes to mind instantly and I remember thinking, "WTF" but under the name of commercialism, it went under the radar for the audience.

suraj Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Man have to say that without artistes of the likes of Kamal Hasan etc South Indian movies are plain ridiculous- not because of how they are made but because of how succesful they become even after such awful presentation with overweight, overaged actors doing plain ghetto acts with awful technical direction Rajnikanth can actually act but his fans rather line up to see him twirling cigarrettes and doing gun tricks. I admire Kamal hassan for sticking to his acting skills rather than succumb to crap acts to please such a cheap fan base!!!

Telugu film industry and the malayalam one exists too, both of which have terrific actors and directors. Mammooty has won so many national awards - its unbelievable. Mohanlal, Shobana (perhaps all unrecognizable names) but are excellent artists. BTW, Shobana's action in Manichitrathazhu makes both Vidyabalan's (in Bhool Bhulaiyya) and Jyothika's (in the Tamil version) look like a joke. K Viswanath, Balachander, etc. are all some awesome directors who have come up with excellent films in the past. Shekhar Kammula, Bala (from Pithamagan), etc. are also a few of the excellent ones today.

Seriously, Balakrishna overdoes his acting so much so, that imo at least, its equivalent to listening to nails on a chalkboard. The last Balakrishna movie I watched was when I went to Andhra in 2004 was "Vijayendra Varma: The power of an Indian". Seriously, if this isn't the most overly hyped, unintentionally funny excuse for a movie, then Actor is the best pace bowler in the history of cricket. I mean, the movie dwells on issues of patriotism, but it so poorly conceived, you feel like banging your head against a brick wall. One minute he's fighting terrorists, next he's some playboy in some f ing song, and next, he morphs into all the indian freedom fighters. What f - ing standards does the Telugu film industry have if it claims crap like this is award winning material.

graphic23 Posted January 23, 2009 Posted January 23, 2009 Haha. If you're watching a Balakrishna movie and expecting any logic or filmy material, I just feel sorry for you. The man himself is a good guy (barring some shooting incident, etc.) but his movies are just about the worst you can get. That movie is so pathetic, the BO didn't run it for more than 1 week (I do not kid you). Godavari, Happy Days to a certain extent, Anand, Bommarillu (I don't know how others would react to it but I felt like it was a good film), Gamyam (excellent film - the director actually credits it as an inspiration from Motorcycle Diaries (not actually taking credit for it.)), Style (again, an excellent film) have all been very good movies. The reason why I can't give you a bigger list is because the Telugu film industry basically runs on entertaining movies - no one feels the obligation to give a "good award winning film - i.e. with a good story, etc." - its just a hoshposh of comedy, violence, and the everlasting (and SO GOD DAMN BORING) romance, with some innovative screenplay and there you have a big blockbuster. Some movies are funny despite having a lot of flaws though - I liked Ready, King, Dhee, Vikramarkudu, etc - these don't claim to be award winning - they are purely entertaining.
