Cricketics Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 Which country is according to you the best living wise. don't mention India..In future, even i would want to settle in India.. but lets just discuss about between these 4... which country do you think is bette.. give some pros and cons.. etc.. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- my view... I have been to all 4 places. and but have mostly lived in U.S and to me the standard of living is quite better here in States then what it is in Uk or Aus or Canada. Here we have big beautiful systemtically run cities. From Beaches to Mountains.... Utah, DC, LA.. everything... Amazing food.. and people, even though they are mostly money minded, i found them much more friendlier then what i noticed in UK. o and so many HD channels... USA for me...
h4te Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 I have only been in the US. But from what i hear/see, UK sounds boring + bad teeth + crappy weather. Australia is Texas (aka, rednecks) times a 100000000000. Canada....no one cares about :haha: so, if given the four choices, I'd go with US (no Midwest or Bible Belt, please). Either East Coast or West Coast. The East Coast has crappy weather in the winter, but it is more liberal and cultural diverse. West Coast (California, I mean) has amazing weather and very culturally diverse, but it's very expensive to live (esp. for poor students). The biggest drawback of US is that it doesn't really have a 'culture'. There are no national sports (like cricket or soccer) that can bring the entire country together. Most people keep to themselves, and I would say that most of the US is very conservative (despite what most people say). The less said about Midwest or the Bible belt the better. Also, most of US is too stuck up thinking they are the best in the world, which is not true anymore. Overall, US is still a better place to live. However, I would love to live in Western Europe.

Good Job prospects, great standard of life and two of worlds best city Vancouver and Toronto are in Canada...not to forget, GTA(Toronto and Suburbs) has one of the largest Desi population in the world.... Summers are excellent though 5 months of winter can be pain.... with so many Indians and Pakistanis, Cricket is played in almost every school.... i m also impressed with the government role.... Grants for University Education, Pocketmoney from the government everymonth till u r 18 and many countless facilities.....

Countries like U.S.A, Canada dont stand a chance in front of places like Finland, Norway, Sweden etc. Even Japan is far far ahead in terms of civic sense and public convenience. NZ too comes quite close. One of my colleagues was saying that he had gone to Iceland a few years ago. There it seems that if you are walking on the road, people actually stop their cars besides you and offer a ride voluntarily. Bottom line, if you're talking about standard of living, none of U.S/U.K/Canada/Australia should even come into the picture. Nordic countries and Japan will win by a country mile.

The OP asked to comment about living standards, convenience, civic amenities... In those aspects, Western Europe and Japan absolutely trounces U.S.A. And its not like most of the people Finland, Norway, Sweden etc do farming for a living. They've pretty sophisticated Industries too, I am sure. And I havent mentioned about the people yet. Most of the U.S population is shockingly unfriendly, compared to many of the European countries. Here, people just look out for their own self, whether at work or otherwise. Last year, I was traveling from New York to Baltimore in one of those Chinatown buses. The bus stopped about halfway for a break. I hopped off the bus and went to a Starbucks for a Latte. For some stupid reason, my coffee got delayed and by the time I came out the bus had already left. And I got zero help from the people who were around me and the worst part was, I didnt even ask for a ride or anything. All I wanted was know where that place was exactly located and a mobile phone to make a call to my friend. But not one came forward to help. I finally managed to walk to a nearby gas station, called my friend and he came and picked me up. Here, people are absolutely **** scared of strangers and its especially worse if you're living in a big city like New York. But having said that, I also saw the softer side of the U.S when I lived in Utah. There people are extremely friendly. Because Utah/Idaho is a Mormon stronghold with traditional values, they generally are quite a closely knit community, who are lot more people friendly. In fact, on many an occasion, I have seen Americans go out of their way to make foreign students feel at home. Having lived in Utah first, I truly got the shock of my life when I moved to a bigger city.

I don't know about you guys, even with all the rednecks in the south & the bible belt, I've felt more welcome in this country than any other(except India)..... This country has road-trips, Vegas & the Grand Canyon? Which other country can say that?

The weather here in Melbourne is very similar to Southern California :haha: I have visited to UK and it was a complete suckfest.

From a local point, most people love their countries (atleast in the developed world)...I was talking with a point of view someone who has an option to settle anywhere in the world..

Hell, my friend told me the cellphone coverage disappears once you go a few miles away from the city. Most of Australian populace is settled in the big cities and thats about it. Remember how Gilchrist's brother couldn't even be contacted for days on cellphone because he was out hunting ? :hysterical::hysterical:

Pros for UK (London in particular): ----------------------------------------- * More Indian (if that makes any sense) - Better Indian food - Closer to India * Better social life (personal experience) * More cricket coverage ! * Technically more advanced than US (cellphone service, internet speeds, tv programming) Cons for UK (especially London): --------------------------------------- * Weather isn't that great (although some ppl like the seasonal weather) * Lower Earnings * Expensive to live Pros for USA (specifically LA where i'm at): --------------------------------------------------- * Great weather * Good salaries * Good opportunites * Obama's the prez :P Cons for USA (specifically LA): ------------------------------------ * Expensive to live in * Too far from India * More of a latino/black/white culture that you have to integrate into.

If the food, cultural assimilation, and proximity to India are criteria which you use to make these life-altering decisions, why don't you just move back to India. What's the point of living abroad ?
