flamy Posted February 10, 2009 Author Posted February 10, 2009 dropping him might be easy as you think.he provides us what coach kirsten wants- a medium pacer all rounder.till the next one comes around he will be always be considered. Nayar
rahulrulezz Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 I remember Irfan of 2004/05 against Pakistan. He was the only Indian bowler back then who I actually used to be scared of' date=' as he liked picking up bundle of wickets against us. Seemed to have a promising career in front of him, but pity all that bloom turned in to gloom, like the rest. :--D........apart Zaheer.[/quote'] no offence but I.Pathan has always r@ped Afridi... I.Pathan had dismissed Afridi 6 times... Afridi has a pathetic average of 9 against him http://stats.cricinfo.com/statsguru/engine/player/32685.html?agemax1=30;agemin1=18;ageval1=age;class=2;filter=advanced;opposition=7;orderby=dis_dismissals;search_player=Afridi;spanmin1=09+Jan+1999;spanval1=span;template=results;type=bowling;view=batsman_summary
DomainK Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 He won me over with that knock. And he sure booked his berth in the team for NZ. I just hope that he gets some of his bowling magic back in NZ especially as he will get some suitable pitches there.
rahulrulezz Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Nayar major complaint about I.Pathan bowling is his lack of pace...and A.Nayar makes I.Pathan look like some kinda Shoaib Akhtar or Jeff Thompson.... i have seen Nayar bowl and the guy bowls high 110s and low 120s

Mr. Wicket Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Agree w/ flamy. Nayar's an intelligent bowler, and a seriously destructive batsman. Major respekt to guys who go through a Ranji season averaging 40+ (producing mostly when Bombay needed runs) and with a strike rate near 100.
Shane Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Well he might have won the game for us today, but he allz not well, i think we need to get more out of his bowling, the pace and the swing, i hope he proves all of us wrong in Kiwiland !!!

Fontaine Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Dude he has peaked and now is in decline mode.. unless he is going through sthg like curious case of Benjamin Button his peak days are behind him. Wrong answer. Pathan was never going to be an effective bowler on flat conditions in India/Sri Lanka etc. At his best in Pakistan he was getting huge assistance from the conditions for swing. EVERY swing bowler Indian or not has the same problem be it James Anderson, Hoggard, RP Singh, etc etc. Without the conditions medium fast swing bowlers are just simply not effective in the subcontinent. Hell even Dale Steyn got hammered on a flat deck in India. Where as the SAME bowlers (RP/Praveen/Pathan/Steyn) were tearing up Australia in suitable conditions down under. A more accurate question would be where has Pathan's control of seam gone? The thing that distinguished Pathan from RP Singh and other swing bowlers was his control of seam and getting movement off the seam with his left arm angles and great seam control. In a nutshell that's what makes ZK such a good bowler in the sub continent. When there is no swing, ZK knows exactly what angles to bowl at right/left handed batsmen over/around the wicket and uses proper seam position with the white ball in the first few overs to get the ball to straighten or keep angling. That's what is missing from Irfan. Piss poor seam position. When he does bowl the odd ball with the right seam position it was moving and deviating in the ODIs on a fuller length. He just chose not to do it probably because he was so caught up in bowling variations/slower balls etc rather than focusing on the basics. I'm not happy about it but I'm confident that Pathan is a match winner in swinging conditions but then again so are RP Singh, Zaheer etc.
Fontaine Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Well, Pathan again had an absolutely terrible day with his bowling. He was brought in first change after 5 overs when Ishant was taken off. His very first delivery was a rank legside 120 boundary ball that was dispatched for four. He did follow it up with a better delivery because he got the seam right and the ball swung in, beating the batsmen. Unfortunately either Pathan didn't see the swing or was oblivious because his next few deliveries were simple middle/leg deliveries that were hit for sixes. He did have another decent delivery though at 143. He was taken off after his first over. He came back after his first awful poor over and this is what he bowled: two overs: 9 delivieries offstump/just outside off with variations in pace = 5-6 runs total 3 piss poor deliveries well wide of off stump that all went for boundaries = 16 runs.
Fontaine Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 The most frustrating thing about Pathan's clown bowling is his complete and utter lack of control. Half of his deliveries were right on the mark, with the right line (even though his seam position was poor) but then half were either leg side or wide offstump? For the past 8 months, every time he bowls his first over he has to at least bowl two deliveries straying down legside that get hit for boundaries. You expect that crap from novice/club bowlers but Pathan's picked in the side as a bowler first and batsmen second. Compare that to the way Zaheer bowled. Out of 24 deliveries I counted TWO poor ones that gave too much width. The rest were fantastic deliveries with consistent pace of around 138-140kph, bowling round the wicket, over the wicket to LH/RH batsmen. Sheer class. Ishant had a good day too if you take away the three/four no balls. I hope they don't use Pathan for the ODI's if this is the way he's going to keep bowling.
f.b.m Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Spot on. Adding to that, the most depressing part of it was how little he got the ball to move. His pace has gone up a bit and he looks to be hitting 140 kmph every now and again, but it means very little when its Sami like pace. Something thats even more disturbing is that the opposition always seems to target him for runs (and you cant fault them if you look at the way he's bowling) and he delivers with remarkable consistency to them. Since the CB series in Australia, Pathan has always leaked runs and looked rubbish in general.

bunny Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 ^^ good post.i think its all about confidence.u can see the insecurity in his eyes wen he runs in.he is trying too hard.if possible we should try to give him 4-5 games on the trot n see how he goes.i'm sure he'll get better What???? Why not give 4-5 games to Manoj Tiwari or Dinda or Parmar or Agarkar for that matter? Too much sympathy for IKP. He needs to be dropped and sent back to domestic, English county, whatever.

Anyway,u cant compare ZAK with irfan, zak is on the top of his game ,is a lot more experienced.n hes picked solely as a bowler.irfan is picked as an allrounder.he has just won us game in srl.give him some leverage.he will improve

King Tendulkar Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 I used to get slated for calling him crapthan. But like i always said he is pants.
Fontaine Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 give him a break' date='he wasnt given the new ball, dont know why.and the old ball stopped swinging soon.as u said both the batsman were in the groove wen he came in to bowl.with such small grounds any decent bowler would struggle[/quote'] I can't give him a break because he's bowling rubbish, and after just five overs the ball was still new. Pathan needs to make a decision: 1. Either bowl wicket to wicket aiming consistently for the off stump line at decent pace and only mix in the slower ones periodically (This is how Ishant bowls) 2. Or bowl for swing (like his 2nd delivery) where it was full and straight and swung in because Pathan's seam angle when he gets it right is beautiful. That's why Pathan was such a devastating swing bowler, he has this way of gripping or releasing the ball where the seam position is 2/3 facing the batsmen and this delivery of his ALWAYS swings, and ALWAYS beats the batsmen. But for whatever reason Pathan bowls that very rarely (only twice in two matches) whereas he'd rather bowl far more slower deliveries where his accuracy is piss poor. Ironically Pathan was far more accurate on the off stump line when he was going for flat our pace, he peaked at 138+ 8 times in his 18 deliveries and most of them were on a good line at offstump. It was his slower or medium pace rubbish that was carted around for boundaries and 6's because the line was awful. I would love it, if Pathan just said to himself, I'm going to bowl like this all the time: go to 1:30 in the clip, just his 2nd delivery. He bowled one just like it against Sri Lanka and it also beat the batsmen. That's what I mean about the 2/3 seam position where the ball curves in and keep in mind there was very little swing on offer from the conditions. What Pathan did there was a magic. A 133kph delivery that was starting towards off and ended up middle IN THE AIR. http://www.upbulk.com/media/flvdivx.php?code=561454142833b9b6/ Any swing bowler in the world would give his non bowling arm to bowl like that. That is natural, swing bowling at it's finest and that's a talent you do not teach or learn. Pathan has it just he hardly ever uses it. Too many off cutters, slower deliveries, full tosses/attempted yorkers. Someone needs to grab this guy by his collar and tell him to just bowl that delivery 1000 times in practice and all the time in match conditions. It will swing EVERY TIME. For god's sakes, USE THE DAMN FORCE IRFAN!!!!!!

Believe me, I absolutely love the ability Pathan has when he seams the ball properly, the only way he can which generates genuine swing in the air no matter what the conditions. But I can't stand the rest of his rubbish which is him trying to bowl off cutters, slower ones with little to zero accuracy. At the heart of Irfan is a natural swing bowler, probably the purest swing bowler I've seen in years but it's up to Irfan to bring him out.

This isnt a video game for god's sake.to have control like u want need lots of practice.u cant expect a guy to be accurate like mcgrath all the time.u have to mix it up.in t20 u cant just bowl normal swingers everytime.batsmen will line u up pretty soon.wat pathan was trying was variety.we were defending a lowish total.so pathan had to try extra hard to get wickets.it didnt work out for him,so wat?i'm sure next time it will.with such small grounds, restricting batsmen can be very tough unless u r deadly accurate atleast he wasnt bowling noballs after no balls like ishant.
