Rahane(secondhighest scorer after Jaffer) should be ahead of Badri for a spot in the test team. Dhawal Kulkarni (joint top ranji wicket taker alongwith R. Jadeja who's a spinner )should also be ahead of Balaji... Badri = Matches = 74 Age = 28 Avg 57 18 100s 22 50s Rahane = Matches 25 Average = 63.75 8 hundreds 12 fifties in 43 innings

Thats a very crude, unscientific way of looking at things. You dont pick people on an isolated collection of numbers. It may well be that Rahane's numbers are better than Badri's. It may well be that Rahane is more talented that Badri. It may also well be that if selected to play for the Indian team, Rahane will score more runs than Badri. But, one shouldnt forget the fact that Badri has making mountains and mountains of runs in Domestic cricket for many years now. All that toil should be given its due respect. Michael Hussey was scoring tons and tons of runs in FC cricket, but had to wait till he was well past 30 to make his international debut, because more established batsman were given preference. And that is the way it should be. Players must be made to feel that consistency will be rewarded and hard-work will be respected. Badri should be and will be selected for the Kiwi tour. Rahane will have to wait. And there's nothing regional/political about this. This is pure merit-based, all inclusive selection. He has been the next-in-waiting for more than a year now and if there is a vacant spot in the middle order, he is the one who has to take it and rightfully so.

I'm sorry, Aus was stupid not to include Hussey till he was 30. What about Bala v Dhawal Kulkarni? Ideally, the 4 pacers should be Zak Ishant Irfan Praveen If there is 5th pacer, who do you think it should be? Sree, Bala, or Dhawal (assuming all fit), and why.

I dont think so. If you dont believe me, peruse through Australia's test record during the time Hussey was in 20s. Reg. Dhawal Kulkarni, I've already said its unfortunate that he was not given atleast a grade 'D' contract. Personally, I'd prefer him over Bala, provided there is a space for either of them. In your list of pacers, you have forgotten Munaf Patel. Till 2 months ago, he was our third choice seamer, ahead of ahead of Irfan, Kumar, Sree and RPS. Munaf is fit now. And even in the numbers that you mentioned, you realize that its actually easier to average 63 in 2 seasons, than to average 58 in 7-8 seasons right?

where were u sleeping in the last 8 months??? it still exists & thats what i call as the "quota-system". rohit sharma, a proven failure in intl cricket, is still getting in the team despite repeated failures in the last 8 months purely bcoz of this quota-system which u talked about. lot of players were dropped from the indian team despite having better avg & sr than the useless rohit sharma, but rohit sharma still stays in the team as he happens to be a quota-player

Calling Badri's selection 'regional' is terribly unfair and grossly inaccurate. He FULLY deserves a place in the Indian test squad. If there is a more consistent FC performer in the last 4-5 seasons, who has scored more runs than him, then I'd like to know that guy. And to say Badri will fail in international cricket, even before he's played a single match, is just premature. Now that Ganguly is gone, if this guy doesnt find a place on the plane to New Zealand, that'd be one of the biggest selection botch-ups ever.
