Ram
....for this man, in this series? Its no secret that Dravid has gone through a torrid last 18 months in test cricket. Till now, he has been spared significant amounts of criticism because a) He's been such a legend and a proven performer for India. So, people are willing to back him more than most others All along his barren spell, the team has continued to win test match series'. So, there has been no immediate need to make changes. However, could this NZ series be the last straw? Isnt it really time that Dravid repaid the faith the selectors have placed on him with a string of consistent scores? Bear in mind, he did score a 100 the last time he played a test match, but his career off late has been following a rather painful path - A good score, followed by a string of low scores. So, what will Dravid do, after this series? More importantly, what will the selectors do, if he once again performs under par? Will he quit like Ganguly did, on a high, if we win this series? Or will the selectors sideline him if he fails? How long can the Indian team carry the burden of an under-performing no.3? We've clearly seen in Australia's case that Mathew Hayden was the caboose that was dragging the team down. Once that caboose was replaced by a new engine called Phil Hughes, the results have been there for all to see. The next 3 weeks could be really interesting for Dravid, one way or the other. P.S; This isnt a 'doom Dravid' thread, just mere speculation of what could possibly happen.... Link to comment

fineleg
Big series for him - all the best. If he does well, it is a big fightback, and one of the most brilliant comebacks. If he does not perform, then he should call it a day on one of the best ever careers in Indian test history. We will miss him, but best for him to retire if the comeback does not work out. Chandan
All the best to Dravid. Hope he finishes this series on a high!! We all hope and pray for his as well as India's success!! Link to comment
Lord
irespective of how he does,Rahul should be left alone to make the decision himself.he has been a true legend,it is unfortunate that his slump has come at the end of his career. knowing Rahul,i dont think he will stay even for a moment if he thinks he cant contribute anymore.the reason why he is there bcoz he believes he has it in him still .if he believes that,we should too. somehow i anticipate a good series for him in NZ. Anakin
in b4 this turns into fineleg vs. RSD critics... I have absolutely nothing against RSD and you won't see me whining and creating millions of posts like some did during some period. What I hate is the fact that the same very individuals pretend to be objective non-worshiping followers when they were all very quiet during some other period. I'm sure the regulars here know what I'm talking about. Anyways, good luck to RSD, hope he does well in this series. Link to comment
Ram
I am sure, even Rahul himself must be feeling the pressure. Being the gentlemanly cricketer that he is, he will know that he should not jeopardize the team’s chances, for the sake of his own position. If he thought he couldn’t contribute, he’d have hung up his boots long time ago. He obviously believes he still has a lot of cricket to offer. Who knows, this Kiwi series may just be the beginning of another golden run for him.. Link to comment

punjabi_khota
I think he should try his best, and whatever happens in the series, should retire gracefully. Maybe take a leaf from Hayden and the way Aussies have been rejuvinated. Link to comment

The Outsider
What's up with Sriram and hyperbolic OPs and thread titles? Dravid has been in decent knick - got a hundred in the last test, had a few decent knocks in the domestics. I don't think the team is really worried about his form. The only thing to consider is perhaps a swap of positions with Laxman, but other than that Dravid has been really good in England/NZ types of conditions traditionally and I am not too concerned about him scoring some runs. One good thing in his favor is that given the quality of reserve batsmen we have in the squad there will be no pressure on him about being dropped before the series is over. Link to comment

You’re being too nice to him Shwetabh and you know it. You think any one of Rahane/Badri/Pujara would fare any poorer than what Rahul has done, if they were to replace him? On the flip-side, if they manage to do well, then imagine what an incredible boost it is to our team. Mathew Hayden’s presence against South Africa at home cost Australia that series. I don’t want our victory chances in NZ to become a casualty for the sake of protecting a legend. Link to comment
