A very little known fact is that many Indians in the US are closet Republicans and may not even know it, not the kind that bred Bush and his ilk but classical Republicanism, the principles that founded the Republic. In simple terms : Classical Republicanism : The Government is just an arbiter of jurisprudence, its role is to provide the tools and means for the individual to succeed.The rest is up to the individual. Classical Liberalism : The individual is flawed as humanity is nascently prone to making mistakes, thus the greater community takes care of everything the individual needs. Extreme forms of Republicanism metastasizes into Fascism - Absolutism of the State politically Extreme forms of Liberalism metastasizes into Communism - Absolutism of Government. Indians tend to arrive in the US with less and build a very satisfactory life, they tend not to encourage mediocrity and balk at entitlement. They tend to support the private sector , prefer lower taxes and are for the most part social conservatives. All the above are strongly Republican precepts, yet they overwhelmingly vote Democrat. Anyways the way Obama's appointments have turned out leads one to at least suspect the guy's intentions.

The republican stereotype is a rich white man, having nothing to do with immigrants, intolerant of other races and christian. The indian immigrants want nothing of that, and hence they vote democrat.

The outward image of the Republican Party is like you said, which is quite far from the truth.

There are rich republicans who are in for the money(since they like less govt control, and their taxes are forever reduced under republican govts.), and then there are hill-billies types who are in because of the jingoism ("No muslim is gonna rule my country", "Jesus hates phags" types..there are PLENTY of them..) . The latter provide the votes, the former the money to the republican party.

Anyways, I know a lot of republicans don't fall into categories I mentioned but I still cannot understand how a reasonable person can vote for Palin.

Those long lines outside her rally full of ignorant ****s, the old lady in McCain rally talking about how Obama is an Arab and shouldn't be president, etc etc...

However, too much racist stuff exists that puts Indians off. If these are not there, who knows - maybe Indian born folks will actually vote for Republicans.

They just buy US bonds and the US then borrows against it to pay for its budget and debt service.
