fineleg
Today Indian team benefitted from a lot of runs being scored behind the wicket. Good for us. However, In previous tests, NZ have scored in that area too. Captains rarely have fielders manning that area, and it is very frustrating for bowlers to see edges flying between slips or gully for 4. Hopefully, MSD will take note, and when and if needed be willing to post fielders at that boundary, so edges from batsmen result in singles, and not leaking 'easy runs' for the NZ batsmen/tail. graphic23
Preemptive strike, eh? Generally, captains almost never post a thirdman in the fence unless at least 100 runs are scored there. Why? I have no clue. They'll post a deep point or a sweeper cover but never a thirdman. Link to comment
cowboysfan
i too hate those easy runs-we should look to patrol the 3rd man area early on-we dont have alot of runs to play with. Link to comment

cowboysfan
^^600?.there will definitely be a lot of edges through slip and gully tommorrow.i just feel that we should limit that runs. Link to comment
graphic23
^^600? 600 = boring draw. 400 = exciting match on hands. It should be fun watching Zaheer and Ishant bowl on this pitch. Link to comment
EnterTheVoid
What do you suggest we do ? Link to comment
fineleg
cowboysfan: Exactly - we should patrol that and cut those freebie 'lucky' edges to 4 that NZ may get. This has happened many times in previous Tests (not just against NZ, but against other teams as well) graphic: When you have 600 on board, then you can allow 75+ runs behind the wicket and it won't hurt you much. But with a 375 total, we can allow maybe a few runs only there. It depends on what happens tomorrow. Dhoni needs to just monitor how it turns out, and decide to plug the boundary at deep thirdman (earlier than much later) if the situation arises. Yes, my post is pre-emptive, but we have seen these happen in other matches. sree_india: what do we do? Monitor how it goes, and don't wait too long to put a patrol out there if you find lucky runs are being scored there. Those runs frustrate the bowlers, and Ishant, ZK will be grimacing - you can see the frustration when the ball goes right between the slips or the gully. Link to comment
Rajan
i recall Stephen Fleming employ a deep thirdman in a test right from first over and restrict our free scoring batsmen once earlier. Link to comment
Sachinism
Its about time we got some runs in that area, NZ have been constantly scoring in that area Link to comment
