Ram
Phail? Is that a joke? You can only be so adventurous and calculating at any given time. Just so that the record is set straight, we did not bat till lunch of day 5, we declared halfway through the first session of day 4. That’s a humongous 165 overs that were left to bowl the Kiwis out. How many teams offer themselves the luxury of bowling 160+ overs to bowl out a team on innings 4? It rarely happens. Now, of course we knew the rain was coming and may shave off 50 overs off that. But, what if did not come? What, if NZ ended day 4 on 300/4, and had an entire day and 6 wickets to chase 230? Why do we have to put ourselves through the predicament? People may say that 530 is a large enough total and that is true, but there is a BIG difference between 530 and 620. As Dhoni said, 600+ total gives you the option of attack, attack and more attack.. ALWAYS.. Its not our fault that bad light stopped play on day 4. Its not our fault that rain robbed half the day’s play on day 5. We did what we HAD to do – Put the game beyond doubt even before innings 4 began – Unfortunately, we got unlucky with the weather Gods. There’s nothing ‘Phail’ about this Indian team.. That post is too intelligent, well thought out, and logical mm? How about Team India fails, or boo-hoo we didn't win 2-0? That seems to be the common theme in this thread. Link to comment

Sachinism
Its the Indian mindset, series win is enough, no need to try for more. If we want to be number 1 we are going to have to win more matches in the series's we play. Look at Australia at their peak and even know they are going for wins all the time. I agree we batted too long, India must have wanted to completely give NZ no chance of chasing down the runs, not like they would have chased 500, but I guess India just wanted to make sure and take zero risks Link to comment
cowboysfan
the stupid icc rankings is taking away points from us-i think we were better than 117 before the series started. Link to comment

The Outsider
Great series win, but I am sorry there is no justification to set up a 600+ score. If you cannot back your bowlers to dismiss an opposing batting line up like NZ for less than 500 when you have bowling resources like Zaheer, Ishant, and Harbhajan in the last innings on a wicket doing something, it shows an over defensive mindset. To be fair to Dhoni though, the rain came an hour earlier than expected - it could easily have come an hour later than expected or at the predicted time and we would have won the series. Or had Gambhir, Munaf, and Ishant held on to their catches the result would probably have been different as well. This Indian side is too good to finish off series against the likes of England, New Zealand, and Pakistan at 1-0. They have played some excellent cricket but need to be more adventurous to hammer in the issue. I cannot see this time winning even 5 tests in a row, forget about getting close to the 16 test win mark set by Australia twice or even the 10 test win mark established by West Indies in an era of many more draws. punjabi_khota
the stupid icc rankings is taking away points from us-i think we were better than 117 before the series started. There is nothing stupid about that. If while you are ranked 3rd and you win 1-0 in a 3 match series against a team ranked 8th, no way you deserve to move UP the ladder. ICC ranking don't care if we won here after 41 years or whatever. It is completely justified. A 1-0 win here is as satisfying as series win in WI in 06. Surely, it is a big deal since we haven't won here in ages, but then this the probably the weakest NZ team we played against (and that was the weakest WI team we had played). Also, lets not forget the genius of organizers and DST crap that we had to put up with. Start timings could have been managed way better knowing it was very probable that rain would interrupt proceedings on last day. Link to comment
veer
yeahh 600+ run was bit too much.. he should have checked weather report for next two days at the end of day 3.. ahh i wont take this to heart though.. Link to comment
umpire
Nobody has criticized NZL board. When they adjusted DST, they should have started at 10.00 am, because light would have faded. Because of thsi silly mistake, 30 overs were lost Link to comment

Because of thsi silly mistake, 30 overs were lost Second, the start of play has remained unchanged even though the clocks were pushed back an hour after daylight saving was discontinued. In effect, play started an hour late on the last two days; with winter approaching it would be foolish to expect light to stay good for so long. If Andy Moles, New Zealand's coach, is to be believed, there was an offer to start at 10:30 am, but India didn't agree. Twenty-three overs have been lost over the last two days despite an early start today. Source Link to comment
