I mean if you are a legal immigrant and have passport to support you are good. If you are a permanent resident you would have some other identification on you. A lot of time driving licenses are suspended (say drunken driving) but still these people have to travel.

Ram Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Thanks guys. My upcoming journey is a trip to India, so I’d have to carry my passport anyways. Here’s one more silly question. On my return leg, my port of entry is D.C, where I halt for 6 hours. Once I am done with immigration and re-entry, can I sneak out of the airport, visit some friends (or have some friends visit me), come back, check-in and catch the connecting flight to my home-city? Or do they not allow you to exit the airport at your port-of-entry?

Its only accepted by land and sea..not my air and u can simply flash the license and they already have u in the system..not sure if u ever crossed the border but whenever I come to the US..they ask my country of birth and I look middle eastern in some ways so in I go and then there is a wait time for the clearance etc etc With this, I am pre-cleared for entry

Or do they not allow you to exit the airport at your port-of-entry? Once u pass immigration, u can go out as they obviously wont ask ur immigration status for domestic travel
dial_100 Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 Yup... you can go out of airport with your bags. Trouble is that you cant check in your bags for your next leg before 3 hours of departure. So carry it with you and should not be a problem.

You take domestic travel where they will ask for an identification (be it passport or drivers license). They wont hassle you with Immigration questions. Keep your International tickets in hands just in case.

Keep your International ticktes in hands just in case. For what. once you are in domestic terminal it really does not matter. They dont care where you coming from. As long as your bagges meet airlines criteria, you are good to go. ID will be required only for Security check. Did you mean domestic??

You are correct it does not matter. It helps when you are carrying a lot of luggage, which most likely you will in an International travel, and hence do not have to pay for extra luggage. International baggage are generally not charged. Now this might not be 100% true today with all the Airlines charging for extra baggage.
