More opportunities. One can still be successful without being a doctor or an engineer 2. Quality of Life. Basic amenities such as 24 hr electricity, decent waste management system, a clean environment, less pollution etc; Not having to sleep in mosquito nets when visiting rural towns also helps :mad: 3. Hygienic public toilets Despite all the progress, the fact that India still continues to be labeled as a "third world country" that is plagued with poverty, communal violence, corruption, the divide between the rich and the poor amongst others is a little difficult for me to accept.
Desi Cartman Posted May 15, 2009 Posted May 15, 2009 If I get a similar job with similar working hrs then I will move tomorrow ... pay in India is not as much and people work from 9-8pm and I cant do that ... BTw I would also like it if govt does something about proper parking .. baki sab chalta hai ... People are same everywhere .. medical facilities in India arent bad in fact in case of emergency and when it comes to finding an appointment with a specialist , India is 20 times faster

For me, I wont say I'd never move back to India. I'll keep that open for now. But there are pros and cons. Since this thread is asking for the cons, here are a few that come to mind: 1. What zubin says above is true - in India, lot more ppl (and I dont mean immediate family, but there is extended family etc) try to make you conform, and want you to do this, do that etc. I like to live by my own rules - so, Independence is very important. I dont think this is insurmountable, things have changed a lot in India, so #1 is probably not that much of an issue today (I'd think). 2. Money ("pay/salary") is not much of an issue these days. But, work culture is very important. I hear things have changed and MNCs in India are good, but still I'm sure there is a long way to go still. 3. To quote Zap: 'Basic amenities that i can take for granted in other countries' 4. Pollution, city/streets hygiene and maintenance etc (related to point #3) 5. Strangers (whom you encounter everyday in public) are very impolite in India, I wonder why they can't learn to be more polite!!! Basic decency and co-existence etiquettes are lacking there. 6. Traffic horrible in most big cities. --------------------- Things like medical facilities etc are very good in India though(if you afford the right care), in fact the Healthcare system in US has many issues, but that's a different topic.

I live life on my terms. ++ I also think that public transport in Mumbai is VERY GOOD. in terms of reach, cost, dependability etc. Ofcourse if you are asking for comfort then it is a different question.

It can look very messy and scary to you observing from afar or even when you are in it, as a passenger in a car/bus but when you actually drive, it doesn't seem so bad and the proverbial method to the madness does become apparent.

How can it be Myths when we are stating from our experiences from living in india for over 20 years and visit often. Which city do u live in ? Even when i was there last time for just 2 weeks, i had to endure frequent power cuts. I use public toilets almost everywhere because i am used to not taking a dump in the morning like i used to force myself to do in India.

We all get to our destinations in reasonable time after all.

My cousin is here from Vadodara and she says that they lose electricity quite often. That doesnt happen happen to me at all.. Electricity/Water/Cable/Internet etc are very reliable for me (touchwood)

Simple as that. The cars do seem to be a lot closer to each other, but then again that is when you are going at a much slower speed so you have much more control..
