Tendulkar not to tour West Indies By: Debasish Datta Date: 2009-06-15 Place:LONDON Batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar will not tour the West Indies for India's four-match one-day international series later this month. It is learnt that the senior batsman is reluctant to tour since he has not trained with the team for quite a while. Some of Tendulkar's teammates and BCCI officials are aware of his decision but the selectors have yet to hear about it. India are already hampered by the absence of Virender Sehwag who went under the surgeon's knife recently for his right shoulder injury which he suffered during the Indian Premier League in South Africa. Tendulkar's last ODI was in Christchurch, New Zealand where he scored a match-winning 163 before retiring hurt. The first match of the India vs West Indies series will be held on June 26 at Jamaica which hosts the second game too. Game Three and Four will be held at St Lucia. Link to comment
Mr. Wicket
Good. It's a pointless masala series. Give the key men some rest. Use it to give a few games to the likes of Badrinath, Rahane, Nayar and Mishra. Maybe even gamble on someone like Naman Ojha or Maninder Bisla to try someone different as a keeper beyond a visibly fatigued Dhoni and the two usual mediocre replacements. Link to comment
flamy
Goswami will be a good keeper, I reckon. Link to comment
King Tendulkar
He is well rested for a few weeks now! He should tour the windies. We are not playing for a while after that series, so he will get loads of rest Link to comment
flamy
He is afraid of facing short-pitched bowling by Edwards and Taylor! Link to comment
Desi Cartman
Im not too sure about this ... We need him if Veeru doesnt play as for the reason. ITS LAME ! Link to comment

King
Good decision, he needs to spend some time with his family. Link to comment
ritwik
Good decision' date=' he needs to spend some time with his family.[/quote'] I will be disappointed if he pulls out. The team needs him now because Sehwag is not there, and a lot of our players [for eg: Gambhir, Dhoni] look jaded and out of touch. Tendulkar's skill and temperament will do the team a world of good at this stage. And his inclusion will force the W. Indies to revise their plans because we know how good he is at playing short pitched bowling :yay: Link to comment
JayStarz
I think some young, promising stars should be the focus of this tour. The set players in our lineup all look dead, there is absolutely no energy in the field in the past few matches. Link to comment
Chandan
Mid-day? Forget it. Perhaps this news might be credible to you from this source Tendulkar likely to miss Caribbean tour June 16, 2009 14:48 IST Sachin Tendulkar [images] may miss the forthcoming cricket tour of the West Indies [images] as he feels he is yet to regain full fitness, it's reliably learnt on Tuesday. According to sources, Tendulkar, who is recovering from a finger injury, has conveyed to the selectors that he is still not entirely 100 per cent fit and would like to skip the one-day series, the first of the four matches beginning on June 26. Tendulkar had revealed towards the latter part of the Indian Premier League [images] last month that the finger injury he had sustained during the Test series in New Zealand [images] in April was actually not a bruise but a hairline fracture. The star bastman is presently in London [images] with his family, as is chief selector Krish Srikkanth and Raja Venkat, selector from East Zone. The BCCI Secretary N Srinivasan is joining them in England [images] on Tuesday. It is not yet clear when the team for the West Indies is to be announced but sources indicate it could be by Wednesday, a day after India's campaign in the Twenty20 [images] World Cup gets over at Nottingham. Left-arm paceman Zaheer Khan [images] may also be unavailable for the tour and lack of fitness could be cited as the reason for it. Selectors are also toying with the idea of dropping Irfan Pathan [images] as the wickets in the Caribbean are slow and his lack of pace might be a handicap. According to sources, there is little chance of Virender Sehwag [images], who missed the Twenty20 World Cup, making it to the Caribbean tour. India play four one-day matches in the West Indies, with two games being scheduled in Jamaica (June 26 and 28) and two in St. Lucia (July 3 and 5). The Indians are expected to leave from England itself for the West Indies on June 22. _________________________________________________________ So, no Tendulkar no Sehwag no Zaheer and no Pathan too. I don't know about sachin but Dhoni himself and his young brigade certainly needs rest.At least half of them are going to WI.This will not help India's cause. Link to comment
Gambit
Good decisions. He's smart enough to realise that Fidel will probably knock him around in the West Indies. Always had problems against pure pace, this chotu. Link to comment
