Nayar: IPL stint was very important The stint for the Mumbai Indians franchise outfit in the IPL was very important, feels all-rounder Abhishek Nayar. "I expected to be included in the side for the ICC World T20 championship. That did not happen and I was disappointed, but I'm happy to be selected now", Nayar told PTI on Wednesday on his selection in the Indian ODI team bound for the West Indies. Talking about the IPL, the Secunderabad-born youngster said that rubbing shoulders with international players and doing well brought him into the limelight. "Playing with top international players and on an international stage like the IPL gave me a fair idea of what it's all about," said the 25-year-old hard-hitting left-handed batsman and useful right-arm medium pacer. Nayar said that he got useful tips from champion batsman Sachin Tendulkar while he was playing in the IPL. "He told me not to get overawed, stick to the basics and play my natural game always," said the youngster with the uncanny ability to break partnerships. He played a key role in Mumbai winning the Ranji Trophy for the 38th time last season. Nayar, who averages close to 44 after four first class seasons, said playing for India A against the likes of Australian express bowler Shaun Tait also stood him in good stead. Link to comment
Max_Cady
i really like his batting you know he smashed flintoff all over the place in ipl good allrounder and low order batsman, hope he gets a game. def. better than jadeja in 50 overs format Link to comment
vvvslaxman
I am still not convinced. He tries to swipe everything to cow corner without even getting into position. When he clicks he can score quickly. Link to comment
Guest Hiten.
He won't be in the playing XI. As far as I understand Murali Vijay will be used to open the innings and Rohit will slotted back in the middle order. I don't think any of the players except Vijay will get a pretty decent run considering they are Middle Order batsman, unless Badrinath is willing to open (...but then again Dhoni will be slaughtered for making a "specialist" MO batsman open the innings BUT no one raised a concern when Rohit was asked to open.) M.Vijay, GG, UV, Rohit, Yusuf, MSD, Jadeja, Ojha, Bhajji, Ishant, RP. Link to comment
Cricketics
Dhawal Kulkarni went to NZ and didn't get a single game. I would have loved to see him in this squad. Wonder why the selectors didn't give him a chance. Good that Nayar is there. Link to comment

yoda
We could have used him in the T20 WC. Always seems to come up with some big hits. Link to comment

I can't believe that Kohli was left out inspite of good international outings, a fantastic domestic season and a decent IPL. These are the sort of illogical decisions that destroy a player's confidence. Link to comment

But I do think they will fare just fine and should be able to win the series 3-1. Yuvraj and Dhoni will be our key men in the batting line up (doh!). Link to comment
