Aditi Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Has anyone here applied for it? If you already have OCI, how long did the entire process take? I am going to be in the US (Los Angeles) for 6 weeks this summer and am planning to apply for OCI (I am eligible to apply since my dad is a PIO card holder and is thus eligible to apply for OCI) once I get there, but I am not sure if that is enough time to get that magical sticker on my passport. Contacting the Indian Consulate in San Fransisco is a b*tch, no answer to phone calls or emails. :whack:

If you can afford to wait , then OCI is better , but it can take upto 6 months sometimes ! OCI is permanent and it costs 275 USD versus PIO which costs 375 USD.

I suppose I can change from PIO to OCI in India later on....

It was actually easier to apply for my Canadian citizenship than all this gundagardi of Indian embassy for OCI ......

I have called Houston consulate several times....no one ever picks up their phone. Never got any response thru email regarding OCI. I applied along w/ family back in september of last year and even though it took 6 months for paper to come back from Delhi...they still haven't mailed back anything...but they did cash the $300 money order + mailing fee

It is not. OCI is nothing more than a glorified Visa (it is a mix of Visa and Permanent Residency type). No where close to dual citizenship except for the confusion in the name. Maggot is right, and Kumble Rocks/Cricketicz have mentioned it in the past too. GoI should implement dual nationality - they said they will, but never did it.
