triam Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 For all theists, is there anything that could happen that would change your belief to non belief? if so what and if not why not? Same question for atheists, do you think you can become a believer? if so what should happen and if not why not.
fineleg Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 My Dad was a strong atheist. Now he is a strong theist. Totally opposite of what he was. I guess such changes happen, as to what exactly caused the shift, I need to find out.

I grew up praying to God whenever I needed stuff from him, then I got into the ISCKON and became a vegetarian for more than an year and got back into meat because my family didnt like it. Then, now I have left chanting by myself because I have become more spiritual.

I wouldn't call myself an Atheist, or a believer either...I'm in the middle somewhere. When I see a ghost or experience something really supernatural, I'll start to believe. Until that happens...I'll hang in the middle :P

Ram Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 The only thing that is going to make me a 'believer' again is if I actually SEE God, or a manifestation of his presence, in the form of a verfiable miracle etc. I am willing to consider the possibility of the existance of a super-natural being, but I will NEVER accept giving that form varieties of names, forms and places of worship.

satishg Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 i can only become a believer if i see the supernatural force right before my eyes, even then i guess my thought process would be on the lines of questioning my eye sight rather than believing what i would be seeing..anyway i know that would not happen..

Zap_Brannigan Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 I used to "believe" in the sense that that's how i was raised and when i was a child, I remember I was more afraid of god punishing me if i didn't go to temple. But then i saw poverty and suffering. I read about religions with horrible men seen as prophets, swamis and godmen. I dont respect religion ever since i realized that. Even if god came down to be shows me his power, he would be nothing more than a magician and not the god written in literature.

So the song is about lies, hypocrisy, nonsense and superstition then? I don't believe in amorphous concepts like hope or faith. So you could say I have faith in nothing yes.
