Totally agree Thats why we need change. We neeed a skipper with fire in his belly

We could not win in WI then. With Ganguly, our only abroad win mentionable was against Pak in 2004, other than that had drawn series against Aus, WI, and England and also lost first home series to Aus in 3 decades.

But is it his fault if the whole team choked in finals [including Sachin]? As far as tests are concerned, his side won more tests outside India in 5 years than we did in our whole 50 year history till then. At least he broke the rut where we played scared abroad and came back with our tails between the legs. At least he started the process where we could break that mental stranglehold we suffered overseas. That process is more important than the end results. Or would one have preferred losing all tests overseas? Regarding Zimbabwe, they were a good team with good players like Johnson, Grant brothers, Streak, Brandes etc. One forgets we never even won a test in Zim before that. That Zim team also beat teams like Pak and SL in one of tests too. We did end a 2 test series in India 1-0, but thyen again Andy Flower was a class bat who played out of his skin to save a test the way Laxman was known to in similar conditions. The test was played on a very flat batting track so obviously we need to blame our groundsmen and system too for preparing flat borefests? Last but not the least, ICC prepares schedules and India didn't ask for more tests against Bangars/Zimboks. Aus hosted then only once that whole decade, the Aus and Eng teams hypocritically cut down on tests with them using political excuses like protesting Mugabe and Asian countries ended up filling that unfair backlog, especially India and Lanka. Lastly lets look at overseas wins in that era. Ganguly: 1 [Pak], 1 [sL], 1 [Aus], 1 [Eng], 1 [WI]. 5 Wins [not counting 1 Zim and 3 Bangars wins. Else total is 9. The WI series we lost 2-1 was largely to rank bad umpiring that ensured we could never get Chanderpaul and Hooper out at all the whole series] Dravid: 1 [Eng], 1 [sA], 1[Pak], 1 [WI]. 4 wins. Kumble: 1 [Aus]. 1 Win. Dhoni: 1 [sA], 1 [WI], 1[NZ], 1[sL]. 4 Wins. I might even have missed a couple of results here. This is strictly off memory. Dhoni/Kumble and Dravid benefitted from a team Ganguly shaped mind you. Lets not forget his team didn't have decent bowlers. Barring Srinath and Kumble. Zaheer was a blow hot and blow cold player with likes of I. Pathan, Nehra, Prasad and Balaji. Kumble only menaged to do well overseas in his last 4 years since that Aus series in 2004. Bhajji was and is still an overseas liability. Srinath was consistent but past his best. Anyways, before that era we had a sum total of just a paltry 17 wins outside India in 50+ years. So doesn't that count for something that we achieved that much in last 10 years? Or would you we remained pathetic consistently overseas and languished near bottom of the table all along? Its upto the BCCI to prepare a system that produces a strong system of strong players and results. Where neither exist in a redundante system Ganguly did more than what any captain could or hope to achieve.

Bottom line,Gangu > Dhoni.

Ganguly's side lost to NZ in 2003 in a both away tests where all our senior batsmen at their peak couldn't bat out 300 runs in any innings. I wonder how much merit can one place in the argument that batsmen'a age is an issue currently, because SRT has been getting runs, so many near 100s too, just not that 100th in pressure and Dravid was the star batsmen in England just 3 tests back. The form of Laxman is the only issue in which case though he has scored a 100 and a two 50s in this time. So is Dhoni a good motivator or not? Compare to Ganguly's 2001-02 tour to Sri Lanka without the services of injured Sachin, Srinath, Kumble and Laxman. Players like Badani, Harvinder etc were chosen and yet we lost the test series 2-1. Despite a depleted side and facing a strong Lanka at it's den, he rallied the pathetic players at his disposal and edged Lanka out in the second test leading from the front with his own batting in second innings. Compare this with Dhoni's injured team cluelessly waiting for tests to get over in England now.

This time conditions have been to hot to handle for Indian batsmen while in 2003 and 2007, most tracks were flat.
