I don't know whether its common in Rajasthan, but one of my Bikaneri friend's family has some similar tradition. 4-5 people eat from one common big thaali and people hand-feed (sometimes forcefully) to each other. They literally take it as a game to make the other guys eat more than you. :dontknow:
