Fontaine Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Yeah must have bowled a lot of trash to have better numbers than either Zaheer or Ishant' date=' who lead the Indian attack.:giggle:[/quote'] Zaheer bowled a lot of trash early on in his career too. Was wildy inconsistent. Even on the England tour when Sreesanth started to bowl better towards the end in the third test, he would send down deliveries down the leg side, too wide, and then bowl one perfect delivery on middle and off that moved off the deck. Ishant is far more consistent in test matches. He can bowl time after time along a set line/length with subtle alterations. But yes, Ishant needs to develop more and in part he's done that by developing a pretty good slower ball that's bagged him a few wickets. I would place more importance on guys like RP Singh/Pathan than Sreesanth because they are left arm swing bowlers and that's something you can't teach. If either one of these guys develops more consistency and can move the ball in the air more often then that kind of left arm bowling is the most difficult to face for RHB. Take for example Pathan and Johnson. Both left arm bowlers and both have picked up around 100 wickets in less than 30 tests. Johnson is miles better than Pathan right now but no matter how inconsistent and crappy they bowl (like Johnson in the ashes and Pathan in the past three years), they will always be wicket taking threats because all it takes for them is to get that inswinging delivery to the right handers and it's an LBW almost every time. It took Zaheer almost a decade to get that consistency. Hopefully it won't take Sree/RP/Pathan that long.
Mr. Wicket Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 "Zaheer bowled a lot of trash early on in his career too. Was wildy inconsistent." So what's there to say Sreesanth can't improve and turn around? Maybe the discipline of county cricket might help him get his head straight and realize what sort of hard work he needs to put in while giving him a stage to take some wickets and be noticed, like Zaheer in 06. At the end of it RP, Irfan and Sreesanth are all very promising talents. But as Shwetabh has pointed out Sreesanth has had a start to his career none of them have had - it's one thing to take a couple of wickets with wildly impressive deliveries, it's another to bowl a whole lot of them in a few spells in a single day and blast out a top quality test team for double figures in their home. That's a rare talent. Indian cricket is better off if he isn't wasted and discarded in the search for yet another superstar.
The Outsider Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 It's also his attitude, Salil. He is a rare bowler who can steam in with all he has got in front of an opposition scoreline of 450/3 on a flatbed. If you remember the South Africa series in the second test on the Ahmedabad patta he was running with a purpose throughout the innings unlike RP Singh and Pathan who were just going through the motions and produced an absolute scorcher to get rid of Kallis. The third pace option in the side should be willing to do the donkey work at times and he is not one who will start trundling away at 120 kmph like RP Singh, Pathan, and Munaf in the face of tough bowling conditions. He's a lot like Ntini in that respect.
Mr. Wicket Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Agree, except that I'd compare him more with Andre Nel than Ntini wrt body language and approach to bowling. It's a big difference to Pathan and RP who look great when things are in their favour - but when the situation's harder, aren't as willing to really put in the hard yards. Remember the Karachi test a few years ago (of course) when we were embarrassed after a position of real strength? Think back to RP and Pathan's approach, bowling and general speeds as Pakistan took the game away in their second innings. Both looked flat against the middle order. Sreesanth is the opposite in that sense.
Ram Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 My biggest fear is that Sreesanth will go down the route of guys like Aashish Nehra, Balaji and end up losing a big chunk of his career, in the sidelines.
dial_100 Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 Copying an earlier post of mine on Sreesanth as I don't have the energies left to type up his achievements in a short career yet again : Video please
Fontaine Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 So what's there to say Sreesanth can't improve and turn around? That's a rare talent. Indian cricket is better off if he isn't wasted and discarded in the search for yet another superstar. Yes, Sreesanth can turn it around. But the comparison to Zaheer isn't relevant. Zaheer only really took his fitness and career seriously when he was dropped for attitude/fitness problems and then dedicated himself in county cricket to then come back and make a big difference. Sreesanth was already dropped a few times from the test side, got humiliated in front of his home nation and the world when he was smacked around and starting crying. If a man with any self respect doesn't come back from that kind of humilation with a vengeance then what does it take? I'm not saying he should be discarded but I don't believe Sreesanth has the balls, courage and dedication to come back and turn it around like Zaheer did. I think he already realizes that he doesn't need to bowl another delivery and he could have a rich and famour lifestyle doing dance shows, celebrity appearances, and the occasional movie role or TV ad.
Chandan Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Sreesanth played his first match for Warwickshire. It was Pro40 match against Leicestershire. Till I followed, he had given 23 runs in 5 overs for one wicket. But I think was really hammered in the final over that he bowled in the match. S Sreesanth 6 0 37 1 6.16 LINK .

Fontaine Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 He is a strike bowler and has gone on to take wickets rather than bowling tight and going wicketless. So in two matches he's been Warwick's most expensive bowler against county cricket batsmen, but that's ok because he's gotten a few wickets. Right. He's supposed to be an international caliber bowler but it's ok that he gets plundered for runs against third rate batsmen. At what point does reality set in?
King Tendulkar Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Well his economy rate was better then 3 of the other seamers and he was nealry and I mean nearly the most economical seamer. He also took 3 wickets. Not sure why he is getting slated here:((
msb1991 Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 People are highly mistaking the quality of county cricket. Division One cricket is of equal if not higher standard to Australian state cricket when it comes to pretty much everything bar playing subcontinental spinners, which is, of course, irrelevant here.
Sachinism Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Sreesanth hit Sidebottom for six lolllll I wonder if he did a dance :hmmm:
