over here....no meat or fish is cooked while the puja is going on around temple premises.... once puja is over then mutton curry is made.... There are obviously no rule but I believe brahmin households maintain vegeterianism (the purest diet) during the pujas
I thought Brahmins maintain vegetarianism throughout their life. I have a lot of Brahmin friends and their parents from were from the old school of thought who still do not eat or make non-veg at all. However, they allow their children to eat as their children do not follow the same traditions. As per my friends, Brahmins should not eat any non-veg for their whole life. I still have some religious Brahmin friends and they do not eat at all even though they are young.

well' date=' now that you do know its up to you to make a choice, personally i dont think it matters what you eat or dont eat as long as you have a clean heart![/quote'] I don't think it should matter what people eat. I don't understand why people give up certain things for certain periods of the year. If you eat it, you eat it. Do you turn religious for 9 days and then go back to being non-religious for the rest of the year?

Brahmins don't eat non-vegetarian since they were traditionally not physical labourers. By not eating non-vegetarian food for 9 days, you give your body time to cleanse itself internally off the toxins which are accumulated. So forget the religious part.
