This is a man who scored a magnificent 100 in the final of a world cup. There is no stage bigger or no situation more intense, than that. As always, its quite easy to be selective and twist stats to portray a player one way or the other. But the fact of the matter is, there is no way in hell someone can clock 10,000+ runs in both forms of the game in less than 15 years since his international debut, if you do not know how to handle pressure and deliver in high pressure situations.

Ponting singlehandedly finished us in WC 2003? When he came in to bat the score was 106/1 in 14 overs? All the bowlers had been hit out of the park and the team was completely demoralised by Gilly's onslaught. Ponting just took over from there

Other than that, every single game he scored a ton, he made sure he finished it off. I think in comparison many times Sachin couldn't finish it off. The most hurtful one was with Pakistan in Chennai when he and Mongia almost made it. I'm sure Ricky would have finished it off..

Really? Can ypu prove this with stats? How many time did he remain not out to finsih things off? Only 8 out of his 28 hundreds were not out. And arent you doing the same thing for SRT which you accused others of, i.e picking a one off game?

But it is unfair to take one-off game and say he's a choker. Especially his contributions which made it impossible for the opposition to even think of a victory. Respect has to be given where it's due and Ponting deserves it.

There is no doubt that he is a great batsman and this thread was obviously made in jest but you give him more praise than he deserves. Most of the time the opposition couldnt chase scores Aus set because of McGrath, Warne et all

Respect has to be given where it's due and Ponting deserves it.

I am applying the same yardstick that is applied to SRT. Everyone discusses SRT's failures with great zest and glee but Ponting's :fail: -ures are never talked about with half the enthusiasm. I simply pointed out his failures in the two biggest ICC events - the World Cup and the Champions Trophy.
