Good move. Badri was kept as a precaution and so it is fine. I would have liked to see Ojha instead of Mishra. I just feel Ojha to be a better spinner but Mishra can also bat a bit perhaps and so the move is fair.
i think u r talking more in terms of control.in tests u need wickets n a leggie is always a more attacking option than a left arm spinner.although i agree that Ojha is a better ODI spinner than Mishra

It is not only about preference. We all know that Mishra and Ojha are the future of Indian spin department after Bhajji and both should be given ample opportunities. Personally I like Ojha better as he has taken more wickets whenever given a chance but I want both to be given equal opportunities. Nobody deserves to be dropped but both should be given equal chance so that they dont get demotivated.

Mishra hasnt played enough ODi cricket, though he should have - in the CT vs Pak, also vs Aus maybe. Ojha has been good, econimical, in his few ODIs. As you say Lord not really enough to go by on both BTW, is he an 'all rounder'? As OP says...didnt know that.

Ranji Trophy- Brief previews Bengal will take on Karnataka in a crucial Ranji Trophy match while Mumbai play Himachal at home. Read previews. More... Tuesday 17th November 2009 Ranji Trophy- Brief previews Bengal will take on Karnataka in a crucial Ranji Trophy match while Mumbai play Himachal at home. Read previews. Bengal and Karnataka to play at Mysore A depleted Bengal sans former skipper Saurav Ganguly will take on Karnataka in their Ranji Trophy Super league match at the Gangotri Glades Platinum Jubilee Grounds on Tuesday. Bengal will go into the four-day game without the services of Ganguly, who opted out of the tie. Even Laskhmi Ratan Shukla looks doubtful as the Bengal skipper is suffering from a muscle injury and would take a call Tuesday morning. "Shukla has a muscle chasm. We worked on him Monday at the nets. But we will take a call only Tuesday," said Bengal coach Roger Binny. Karnataka too would be without Rahul Dravid, who has been the mainstay of their inexperienced batting and is in ominous form. Karnataka have eight points so far, while Bengal have six and a victory here could help either team to consolidate their position in securing a place in the knockout stage. The match will be an interesting contest between the Karnataka and Bengal fast bowlers on a sporting wicket which assists pace and bounce. The yolk of the Bengal pace attack will be thrust on Ranadeb Bose's shoulders. The strapping quick has a competent partner in Ashok Dinda who could be tricky on this surface, which has produced two results in three first class matches. Karnataka also have a sharp and accurate pace trio in R Vinay Kumar, who returned with career best figures of eight for 32 against Delhi, Abhimanyu Mithun and S Aravind. Mithun has been a revelation, bagging 11 wickets, including a hat trick on his first class debut against Uttar Pradesh at Meerut. Left arm seamer S Arvind also impressed during his five-wicket against Delhi in the second innings at the Roshnara grounds. In the batting department, KB Pawan and Manish Pandey, who hit an impressive 194 in the season-opener against UP, have been amongst runs, but all over the hosts have been rather inconsistent. And without Dravid, the onus will be on senior batsman Robin Uthappa to put up his hand and bat responsibly to shore Karnataka's batting. Mumbai vs Himachal Pradesh to play at Mumbai Emboldened with the return of three key players, hosts Mumbai would strive to register their first outright win in the season when they take on Himachal Pradesh in a Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match commencing Tuesday at the Bandra Kurla Complex ground. Top-order batsmen Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma and all-rounder Abhishek Nair, who were in the Board President's XI squad for the washed out practice match against visiting Sri Lanka team, have returned back to the fold. However, Mumbai would still miss the service of India pace spearhead Zaheer Khan, who is busy on national duty in the ongoing Test match against Sri Lanka in Ahmedabad. In both the previous matches -- against Punjab and Orissa, Mumbai had allowed the opponents to crawl back into the match and later were forced to split the points. Against Punjab, they failed to scalp the last three wickets and had to satisfy with three points despite taking a huge first innings lead of 212. In their next outing, rain played spoilsport as even the first innings of both the teams could not be completed. On the other hand, the visitors' story was not much different as they too, like Mumbai, have bagged four points from two matches. Chasing a target of 168 to win in first match against Hyderabad, Himachal could manage only 136-8 before the match ended in a draw, while they had to settle for one point after rain ensured that their away tie against Railways remain incomplete. "The way the boys, especially the bowlers, have been performing, I am confident that we can win this game," said Karnataka coach Sanath Kumar.

Ranji previews of Round III Ranji previews of Round III: Uttar Pradesh take on Baroda in their Super League Group ‘B’ Ranji Trophy encounter at the Mohan Meakins Ground in Ghaziabad from Monday. More... Uttar Pradesh bolstered by return of stars vs Baroda HT Correspondent, Hindustan Times New Delhi, November 16, 2009 First Published: 23:48 IST(16/11/2009) Last Updated: 23:51 IST(16/11/2009) Uttar Pradesh take on Baroda in their Super League Group ‘B’ Ranji Trophy encounter at the Mohan Meakins Ground in Ghaziabad from Monday. And they will be hoping to get a win under their belt considering their key players who were out for national duty are back in the squad. They will welcome the services of Suresh Raina, Sudeep Tyagi and Praveen Kumar. Incidentally, UP already have a loss against their name, while Baroda are still looking for an outright win. “The playing XI will be decided tomorrow morning,” said Gyanendra Pandey, UP’s coach. “Still, we are glad that we will play to our full strength. It’s a slow track, so it will assist the bats.” Baroda will be looking for big names especially the Pathan brothers — Yusuf and Irfan — to fire. Both teams arrived on Saturday and have been practicing since then. Punjab vs TN Riding on individual performances and still struggling to work together as a team, hosts Punjab are set to face a tough Tamil Nadu in the important Ranji Trophy encounter that kicks off here on Tuesday. More... Punjab take on Tamil Nadu Aseem Bassi, Hindustan Times Amritsar, November 16, 2009 First Published: 23:51 IST(16/11/2009) Last Updated: 23:54 IST(16/11/2009) Riding on individual performances and still struggling to work together as a team, hosts Punjab are set to face a tough Tamil Nadu in the important Ranji Trophy encounter that kicks off here on Tuesday. Punjab put up an average batting display in the first two games against Mumbai and Hyderabad, and have been riding more on individual batting performances. Opener Ravi Inder and Vishwas Bhalla have got a hundred each and they’ll be hoping that others come to the party. The likes of Uday Kaul, Taruwar Kohli and even Pankaj Dharmani need to fire. Opener Sunny Sohal has also disappointed in the previous two games. But one thing that has kept Punjab going is the pace battery that comprises of Manpreet Gony, Harmeet Singh and Love Abhilish. Harmeet though will miss this game due to injury. Tamil Nadu, meanwhile, have had a good season so far, and will look to improve from here. Their batting has been impressive and the good thing for the squad is that opener Murali Vijay, who was not picked in the playing Indian XI on Monday, will be playing this Ranji game. Although they will miss Badrinath, who has not been released from national duty. Dinesh Karthik, who is leading the Tamil Nadu squad, is in good nick. As far as bowling is concerned, all eyes will be on Laxmipathy Balaji and company. However, Punjab skipper Ankur Kakkar seemed a confident man. Said Kakkar, “This match is very important for us and we aim to put up a good total on the board. There have been lapses in concentration in the previous two games and we would like to rectify that.” Gujarat vs Hyderabad After an indifferent performance against Punjab in its previous match, Hyderabad will be aiming to come up with a more determined effort against Gujarat in the Ranji trophy super league match which begins at the Rajiv Gandhi international stadium here on Tuesday. More... HYDERABAD: After an indifferent performance against Punjab in its previous match, Hyderabad will be aiming to come up with a more determined effort against Gujarat in the Ranji trophy super league match which begins at the Rajiv Gandhi international stadium here on Tuesday. Despite having produced players of considerable talent, Hyderabad has a history of inconsistent performances which have prevented the team from fulfilling its potential in national-level tournaments. Now, while taking on the visitors, the home team will no doubt hope to bring about a change in the script. To accomplish this, the top level players have to click together. On a strip which is batsman friendly, Hyderabad will hope that players like A.T. Rayudu, T. Suman, Anoop Pai, Arjun Yadav, Ahmed Quadri and others will show their mettle. Will miss Laxman However V.V.S. Laxman’s absence will be a big void in the batting line up. The inability to build up big partnerships has been a problem for Hyderabad and is this an aspect in which it has to improve. The Hyderabad bowlers will have their task cut out and they will have to ensure that the rival batsmen do not take the upper hand. Among the bowlers, Alfred Absalom has improved considerably and he could pose problems for the visitors. Abdul Khader and M.P. Arjun bowled well against Punjab and this should give them a lot of confidence while Ashwin Yadav is also a capable bowler on his day. Pragyan Ojha, who has been released from the national squad, is likely to play for Hyderabad. But in the previous contest, Hyderabad fell behind in the over rate and a repetition of this infringement has to be avoided by the bowlers. Gujarat has seen some good performances from its key players and is therefore, in a confident mood. The batting has functioned well and the centurions of the last match, Parthiv Patel and Jay Desai, seem to be in good form. The team’s current position at the top of the league table along with Tamil Nadu, should also be a big morale booster for the players. The teams (from): Hyderabad: N. Arjun Yadav (capt.), D.B. Ravi Teja, T. Suman, Abhinav Kumar, A.T. Rayudu, S. Anoop Pai, Ibrahim Khaleel, A. Lalith Mohan, M.P. Arjun, Ashwin Yadav, Alfred Absolom, Anirudh Singh, Pragyan Ojha, D. Rushi Raj, Abdul Khader and Ahmed Quadri. Gujarat: Parthiv Patel (capt.), Rujul Bhatt, Jay Desai, Hitesh Majmudar, Ashraf Makda, Jayesh Makla, R. Chauhan, Mehul Patel, Niraj Patel, Timil Patel, Digant Popat, Vimal Tandel, Bhavik Thaker, Siddharth Trivedi and Salil Yadav. Maharashtra vs Saurashtra Ravindra Jadeja and Cheteshwar Pujara—joining the Saurashtra team will not affect the confidence of the Maharashtra team in their Ranji Trophy encounter at Rajkot on Tuesday. More... Team Maharashtra ready to take on Saurashtra Kabir Mandrekar Posted: Tuesday , Nov 17, 2009 at 0535 hrs Pune: Related ArticlesMost Read Articles The international players — Ravindra Jadeja and Cheteshwar Pujara—joining the Saurashtra team will not affect the confidence of the Maharashtra team in their Ranji Trophy encounter at Rajkot on Tuesday, said Ajay Shirke, president of the Maharashtra Cricket Association. Shirke, who feels the Maharashtra players are highly motivated and do not lack in talent, said, “They will be looking to focus on their strengths in the match against Saurashtra. We have imbibed the ideals of self-belief in our cricketers and will not fear any international cricketer,” he said. Both Maharashtra and Saurashtra did not have the best of starts to their Ranji Trophy Group B campaign. Saurashtra drew their opening match against Uttar Pradesh but gained only one point from it owing to their smaller first innings lead. Maharashtra on the other hand suffered a crushing loss to promoted side Bengal and are yet to put up any points on the board. This time, Maharashtra has one of the youngest sides in the history of Ranji Trophy, with the average age being less than 21 years. Inexperience, according to Shirke, is what lost them the match against Bengal. However, he feels the team has learnt from their mistakes and will bounce back strongly. “We are looking to build a side for the future and are happy with their performance so far. We had a good outing in the T20 matches against Baroda and Mumbai and the Bengal loss was just a blip. We are confident of making a good comeback,” he said. The opening match defeat has made Tuesday’s encounter a must-win game for Maharashtra. Skipper Harshad Khadiwale said the team has been undertaking intense preparation for ten days and is raring to go. “We practiced for ten days at home and for the past two days in Rajkot, so we are used to the conditions here,” he said. He added they would be looking to rectify the mistakes made in the first match and return with a good result. “Our batting and fielding have been below par, and we will be looking to improve in those areas,” he said.
