SachDan
Under the scanner big time! Selectors have made it clear he won't be opening the innings for the tour of India. Also expects him to win 1 outta 3 matches with his all-round abilities! :dontknow: In short if Jaya fails to perform in the series it's bye bye from cricket! Link to comment
satishg
He is 40, so its not a big shock. SriLanka cricket needs a move on and i am sure they would be better off without him, no offense to Sanath but seriously how long can they have him in the squad. Link to comment
jf1gp_1
he is 40 he should have never retured after announcing retirement; what a sad way to depart specially for a player who changed the way one day cricket is played Link to comment

satishg
well then he should. As the famous saying goes "You either die as a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain!", it is so apt for sports so better call it quits when you are still respected. Link to comment
Params7
First Dravid, then Gibbs, now Sanath. Why is selection committees made up of cruel people? :P Also I don't think Sanath will be out of the team, just not opening anymore. I don't think its a good move, he did give a good start to batting in the Compaq Cup final. Link to comment

Guest Hiten.
What are the SLC board trying to prove here ? To start with they are persisting with a non-performer and then asking him to win 33% of the game for SL ? :hmmm:. Sanath should have been out of the team long time back and SLC board should have blooded some youngster in place of him. Matthews is a decent bowling all-rounder, so SL should really try breeding some decent opener. Its still not too late for them to try out some new faces before their WC campaign starts. At best, Sanath can only milk Indian bowlers (or any other side with weak bowlers) but that really does not say anything. If performances against India were to be taken too seriously, Butt would never have lost his spot :(( :giggle: Link to comment
Ram
So the selectors want Sanath Jayasuriya to NOT open the innings, come down in the middle order and deliver some important overs with his left-arm spin? How do they even think that someone who has been struggling to make runs at the top when the ball is at its hardest and the fielders are up will be able to score runs coming down in the middle order? Sanath has NEVER been a 'middle-order' sorta player. He does not have the run-chase credentials of say Bevan or Dhoni. He is not a nudger and nurdler capable of herding the lower order. He is at his most destructive at the top of the innings, not the latter end. I find all of this quite comical, which is odd because SL cricket, by and large, is quite well managed. Link to comment
Gambit
Funny Sanath is ending his career the way he started it i.e batting in the middle/lower middle order. Wheel has come a full circle. Link to comment
