bunny
42 group-stage matches out of which 30 involve at least one minnow. These 42 matches span almost a month. So more often than not if you switch on your TV during Feb-Mar'11, there will be a minnow match going on. I might end up hating ODIs by the end of it all. Link to comment
DomainK
One month? That's okay. I will enjoy. I will just make sure that I take a break for that month. Link to comment
Lord
only 7 games will be meaningful Link to comment
bunny
only 7 games will be meaningful +1. with the quarterfinal format even the group games between the top8 teams will also be less significant. imho this is probably the worst format they could have chosen. Link to comment
champ
what was wrong with the super 6 or super 8 format .. where the teams compete once against each other .. Link to comment

jf1gp_1
only 7 games will be meaningful perfect setup for SA, they will win all group matchs and loss their first knockout game then smith will crib about format during presentation ceremony Link to comment
Dinx - the Jinx
42 matches :omg: one month :omg: we can bet and earn a lot of money :omg: Link to comment
Params7
The real World Cup will start with the Quarter Finals. I don't mind long group stages as they warm the teams up and get the time to study the other major opponents but they should be doing 2 matches in one day to fit it all in a month. Link to comment

yoda
world cup games can never be a bore even if played between two minnows. Link to comment
Desi Cartman
I think Indian janta will watch Panchkula Vs bheelwara if there is a game like that in a WC. BCCI will be making a lot of money and at the end of the day we all have an OPTION not to watch the games involving minnows ... I like this format --- Link to comment
King
I hope the game throws up a few surprises such as the Ireland last time around. Cricket can do with a few more competent cricketing nations. Link to comment
Zap_Brannigan
Bigger teams got eliminated last time because of 1 bad day (which could happen in ODI what with toss advantages and pressure). Instead of looking at the core problem of the format, they just decided to have a format which guarantees that all the big teams (India, Aus, Eng, SA) will atleast last 30 days of the competition. Even if Eng is eliminated in the quarters, English fans still have a take in the WC up until the last 3 games. ICC has gone for the money. This format also makes sure that BD and the other 5 minnows will have to win atleast 2 big games to go to the next game (unless weather intervenes), so the chances of top 8 going thro is high (just like 96 WC). King
Last world cup was a sham not because India went out but the way the game was organized was pathetic. The finals must be the worst finals ever conducted in any sport. First the rain, then the cut short game, then the umpires directing Australia and Sri Lanka they will have to come back to play the last 3 overs the next day :(( It just took the sheen out of the world cup. The locals didn't even bother watching the games simply because the ticket prices were so high it wasn't worth it. The umpires and officials were inept. It was good Mahela accepted to just play the last few overs in pitch dark otherwise Aussies had to come back to win the next day. The game by then was concluded in Aussies favour anyways. Even worst bit was the secutiry folks asking the Aussies to bugger off from the ground as they shift was up. It was so stupid of the ICC the way they conducted the world cup. If ICC was a corporate the heads would have rolled. Link to comment

Params7
I hope the game throws up a few surprises such as the Ireland last time around. Cricket can do with a few more competent cricketing nations. Ireland keeps trying, they should have been a Test Nation by now. Their cricketers take time out from their jobs and still pwn Bangladesh time and again, with Test membership they can become full time cricketers and become much better. I read a news article where they said there's no stepping stone between being at the top of associate's group to becoming a Test nation. ICC needs to show Ireland some support already before cricket craze dies down over there. Link to comment
