Mohammad Yousuf captain for New Zealand tour

Mohammad Yousuf has been appointed Pakistan captain for the Test tour of New Zealand in November with Kamran Akmal as his deputy, according to media reports. Yousuf's appointment, the reports said, followed Younis Khan's request to the Pakistan board to be given a break from cricket following the ODI series defeat to New Zealand in Abu Dhabi.

Mohammad Yousuf captain for New Zealand tour Mohammad Yousuf captain for New Zealand tour Mohammad Yousuf has been appointed Pakistan captain for the Test tour of New Zealand later this month with Kamran Akmal as his deputy. Ijaz Butt, the PCB chairman, said Yousuf was appointed after Younis Khan sought a break from cricket following the ODI series defeat to New Zealand in Abu Dhabi. Pakistan's 2-1 ODI loss, after winning the first game, sparked criticism of Younis' captaincy and media reports suggested he had lost the confidence of his players. The teams play two Twenty20 games on Wednesday and Thursday and Pakistan leave for New Zealand on Sunday. More to follow... http://www.cricinfo.com/pakistan/content/current/story/433991.html

Kamran Abbasi on Cricinfo ... Younis Khan has withdrawn from the tour of New Zealand requesting a break from cricket. This is nonsensical. Pakistan have barely broken sweat over the last two years. Younis has just won a pivotal power struggle to secure the captaincy. Pakistan require some consistency, not flip-flopping, and regular changes in leadership create inconsistency and doubt. The team needs to build its form and strategies for the big challenge of an Australian tour. Moreover, Younis' mixed messages have become baffling. As much as many fans believe him to be the right choice as captain, he either wants the job badly enough to stick with it through thick and thin or should he give it up? The problem for Pakistan is that there are few genuine alternatives, and the selection of Mohammad Yousuf as stand-in captain underlines Pakistan's poverty of resources. All the Pakistan fans who recently supported Younis against the establishment, like me, will be bemused, disappointed, and let down by his decision. ------ he's spot on. It shouldnt be MoYo though, go back to Malik if need be.

And this is a time when the team needed him. What a time to show his back?
It is all because of the legacy Imran Khan left, he was probably the best captain the subcontinent ever saw let alone Pakistan. Younis tried to emulate Imran Khan in every way, but unfortunately he just didn't have the character or personna to do it. Younis I'm afraid is a coward, I hate to say it, but captains lead from the front, not from back home resting with family. If he was out of form, then he should have resigned so he can be dropped from the team altogether.
