Who is India's best "bad pitch" batsman?

I think the wide spectrum of players posted here - Sehwag, Gambhir, Dravid, Tendulkar, Laxman - just shows that we don't have one 'best' batsman. Everyone in the top order has the capability to step up on his day and do his job, on any wicket against any opposition. We are truly blessed as a batting side.

after ganguly's recent comments on laxman after the first 2 matches... "At Trent Bridge, Gautam Gambhir's absence due to injury disrupted India's batting order, pushing Rahul Dravid to the opening spot and VVS Laxman to No. 3 - a position Ganguly felt Laxman was unsuited for in seaming conditions. "Laxman is comfortable against the bouncing ball because that's his technique, he hangs back. But the moment the ball starts swinging, he doesn't get on the front foot. He should be batting five or six." ============== now lets take swinging conditions as in england and newzealand bouncy conditions with fantastic fast bowlers like australia and sa and a team which has fielded very good swing bowlers in the india encounters - pakistan lets ignore west indies who have fielded good bowlers like walsh and ambrose... but not on regular basis - to these three and lets ignore indian and srl dustbowls... i put in the data however all these stats are in their countries not total against them stats ... in england, in aus.... not vs england, vs aus 6003207498_65283afeed.jpg other than in australia, laxman has been mortal in other conditions... not yuvi level but still not what you expect. he isnt as good a traveller one might percieve he is. this is a shocker to me. watching these stats again and again, i cant help but feel that maybe dravid is a superior technician than sachin.... but definitely his equal in batsmanship. laxman is a few notches lower than these two. so i go back on what i stated in the op. laxman is not a difficult pitch/conditions batsman (he cannot deal with any pitch/conditions in the world like RD, SRT)... he is a difficult situation batsman now some of you will argue that dravid and sachin might have batted in a way that it never semed like a difficult situation... but different people... different views. so this is my new list difficult pitch/conditions batsman 1) dravid 2) sachin 3) gambhir - laxman 4) sehwag difficult situation batsman 1) laxman 2) sachin 3) gambhir - sehwag 4) dravid

Disagree with your order here. Difficult situations generally happen in the 2nd innings so Sehwag would surely be last. 1. Laxman 2.Gambhir (will be up there with VVS when he ends his career) 3.Dravid. 4.Sachin 5.Sehwg.
