Ram
BCCI constantly gets knocked for turning a blind-eye to the interest of test matches and constantly promoting ODIs (before) and T20s. But have a look at these numbers; Between Jan 1 2000 and present, we have played 102 test matches. (That number swells up to 104), if you're to take into account the forthcoming 2nd and 3rd against Lanka. But, in the previous decade (Jan 1 1990 and Dec 31 1999), we played just 67 test matches. Thats a decade-on-decade increase of more than 50%. If you think the number of test matches have gone up simply because we're playing more cricket than ever, that trend should continue for ODIs too right? But look at this In the last decade, we played a sum total of 257 ODIs, while in this decade, the number is 302. Thats just an increase of just 20%, Decade-on-Decade. However, it must be added that, right though to almost the end of the 90s, our sporting relations with Pakistan were quite chill. And, an extra full-fledged test member (B'desh) was added in 2000. On the flip-side, another test member, Zimbabwe, has almost been inactive right through the 2000s. But the question still remains, is the constant critcism of the BCCI promoting LOIs over test matches, justified? Link to comment
Sooda
Interesting, is unexpected as you say How does those numbers compare to other test playing nations? Thatd be the only way we can tell really. Link to comment
SachDan
Quite surprising indeed. We are not far behind Australia and SAF !! Tests.. Australia- 108 and 111 England- 107 and 127 South Africa- 66 (They were back only by 1992) and 106 Pakis since Jan 2000 - 79 :--D Link to comment
DomainK
Indeed. Perhaps the perception that BCCI is against tests arises from the low number of tests this year. Link to comment
vvvslaxman
Not an unepxected stat .90s was the worst for India in terms of number of matches. Sachin was in peak form. Yet India didnt get to play much. Mostly because of lack of cricket between India and Pakistan. Link to comment

Very interesting indeed. Link to comment
champ
the point is how the situation is after IPL or t20 bandwagon started .. so i think we will be playing less test matches from here on whatever be the stat u have showed there .. Link to comment
The Outsider
Not unexpected for me at least - I've said it in some of my previous posts as well that we play around the same number of tests as Australia these days. However the fixtures are lopsided at times and give the impression that we are not playing enough. Link to comment
fineleg
As champ says the worry is - going forward - what will be the trend? Will BCCI continue to give importance to Tests? Good if they do so. Link to comment
