Freak Occurrences?...

Recommended Posts

As an Indian fan, I've seen Sehwag's career from the beginning, and have read many an article, bulletin, interview, where the word 'freak' makes consistent appearances. Plenty of whirlwind Sehwag innings in the past rightly receive the plaudits, and then get brushed aside as a 'freak occurrence'... Tommorrow, Sehwag will walk out to bat, and will either be snared early on without adding much to his huge total, or will butcher his way past a world record 3rd triple hundred. Just two options, no other way is possible with this single-minded opener... One thing is for sure, if the former happens, he will saunter back to the pavillion, and the World will know that he will come back in a later Test match, and get that 3rd triple hundred. Why? Because the World should now acknowledge that these are not freak occurrences. 2 triple hundreds are not a freak occurrence. A blazing fast double ton is a freak occurrence, but 5 of the fastest in the world, added to a 6th overall, are not a freak occurrence. Owning the 3 highest individual scores by an Indian in Test cricket, is not a freak occurrence. Playing 72 Test matches over 8 years, and maintaining an average above 50, despite the daredevil attitude, and a career strike rate above 80, is not a freak occurrence... The world must now surely take note, and 'freak' can only be used to describe the player, in terms of his unique stature in the game. I recognise Virender Sehwag as not just an Indian great, but an all time world great, and in years to come, history will too...

Good points ! Yeah, it is not a freak inning. Too many of these freakin' innings to be a freak occurrence! He's a freakin' master at playing these kind of innings. He's an astonishing batsman and non believers just need to bow. :hatsoff:

Absolutely. BTW 'freak occurrence' would be more apt for what might happen at Wellington. :giggle:
