Amazing skills, genius and a flair for the big occasion, with Warne's showmanship and charisma and Tendulkar's humility and dignity on and off the field setting them both well apart from any of their contemporaries. Between the two choices you name, I will take Agarkar. But if it's a choice of who I would rather see get out for a duck, then Afridi. :--D who would you support if there was game between Mumbai and NSW? Ponting or Sangakarra? Mumbai. Cant wait Heres a few: Your knowledge of Indian and Aussie cricket is almost equally encyclopediac (sp), if you had to name an Indo-Aus all time dream team, for both tests and ODIs...what would it read like? With bit of explanation/reasoning if you please :D For ODIs, I'm only going with players who played ODIs rather than speculating how Bradman/Miller/etc might fare. Tendulkar Gilchrist (wk) Ponting Mark Waugh Azharuddin Dean Jones MS Dhoni (as a specialist batsman, he is good enough. Plus he can bowl reverse swing at 135 kmh!) Kapil Dev Shane Warne Dennis Lillee Glenn McGrath Explosive batting at the top of the order, some brilliant classical strokeplayers through the middle order who could also hit the ball very cleanly, MS Dhoni and Dean Jones could make a lethal middle over combination just picking ones, twos and threes (two of the best runners in the game I have seen) before unleashing the end onslaught... and Kapil and McGrath sharing a new ball with Lillee and Warne to follow would be brutal. If there was any batting left, Tendulkar and Waugh could chip in with the ball as fifth bowlers. Bombay certainly has the most professional and 'tough' infrastructure right from youth level. The schools cricket and the youth Giles/Harris Shield tourneys are damn competitive and quite often produce some good domestic names. The Kanga League IMO is one reason Bombay has always produced batsmen with better techniques than many other states/cities - guys like Vengsarkar, Gavaskar, Vishy, SRT learned how to handle themselves on wet green monsoon wickets and adapted. Not to mention the whole 'khadoos' mentality - the leagues are cutthroat in nature, players know they may only get one chance and learn to grab it, and people will push for a win hard, and learn how to fight when backs are to the wall. Hence why there are so many youngsters who've done very well the moment they've broken into the Ranji team. When the likes of Tendulkar, Muzumdar, Jaffer, Rahane and co. came into the Bombay team, they had been toughened up well by the system and could handle a lot. 2) Sachin at his absolute best ( 96-98 ) or Sehwag at his best ? Pick One and tell me WHY. I will take Sachin, as his batting at its best combined some of the greatest classical strokeplay I've ever seen with some truly brilliant unorthodoxy - the upper-cuts over the slips (well before Sehwag used to play that shot), slog sweeps out of the rough and such. Sehwag at his best may have more impact, bigger scores and runs at a faster pace, but for sheer batsmanship and the full range of shots, Sachin was beyond anyone else I have seen. (And I'm picking here a batsman to watch for my own enjoyment.) 1. I assume you like Baseball...but then why do you hate T20s? I think there is not much of a difference between the two:P 2. "Left handed batsmen are far more graceful than RHB." Do you agree? 3. If you are made the BCCI President, what will your first task be ?(apart from shutting down that IPL 'circus') 4. You are given a choice to bring back a player from his grave and watch him play, who would it be? Why? 5. I know its too early but still...what are our chances in the next world cup? 1. I like baseball in small doses. T20 cricket is different. I dislike T20 because it's a dumbed down version of a greater game that marginalizes some of the finest elements of the sport. A good contest between bat and ball is one of the great things to watch. That contest becomes far rarer in a T20 match, where bowlers too often resort to bowling defensively - when will you ever see a McGrath or Marshall trying to attack in T20s by keeping a few slips, gully and a leg slip or short leg and working over a batsman's technique? Conversely when would you see a batsman like Tendulkar or Dravid or Waugh biding his time, grinding out a tough period and then breaking loose afterwards? (Not to mention the sights of a batsman actually building a top innings rather than slogging from ball 1 and eventually holing out when trying to score off every ball, or a spinner with a few bat-pads hunting for wickets.) T20 strips away some of the best elements of the game, not to mention steers it in a direction where bits and pieces sloggers and trash like Afridi or Cameron White become more valued, and great strokemakers like VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid can become liabilities. I'll take class and quality over the slogathons. 2. No. Please see Sachin Tendulkar, Mohammad Azharuddin, Mark Waugh, Herschelle Gibbs, VVS Laxman, Zaheer Abbas and Aravinda de Silva for more proof. 3. I would immediately rescind all TV deals with any company that would hire Arun Lal as a commentator. Then I would start trying to plan schedules with more A-team tours and youth tours for up-and-comers and fringe players, who too often don't get a chance to be tested beyond the Ranji/Duleep level. 4. Keith Miller. Thrilling batsman with the ability to build an innings and tear apart a bowling attack in an hour, brilliant quick bowler who formed one of the great new ball combinations, sharp fielder and legendary for his wit and laid-back approach to the game. He's one player I imagine would be a huge favourite in any format or era of the game. 5. I like our chances. Tendulkar is not slowing down, Gambhir is developing brilliantly into a fantastic top-order bat, Dhoni and Yuvraj provide the backbone of a great middle order and if we get our bowling right, I think we'll stand a good chance to move beyond the semis. (Not to mention uncles/grandparents often taking me to Cross Maidan or the CCI to see league or domestic games and explaining them to me.) And yes, there are times it's gotten in the way of other things in life. I happily skipped classes a few years back when seeing Dravid take us to victory at Adelaide. I neglected various other things in the glory days of Tendulkar to watch him destroy all bowlers back in 1998. No regrets there. Whats your first visual memory of cricket? First match I remember watching really in detail in full, and was shocked by the way he ran through a fine batting order. :(( First cricketing hero was Martin Crowe. Genius batsman who could have accomplished so much more, if it wasn't for limitations of playing for a team that was never highly regarded enough to play many high-profile series against top opponents, and his ****ing knee problems. In order: Bombay (Ranjis), New South Wales (Shield), Australia, New Zealand, ABFP (Anybody But F____ P______ - try filling in the blanks?)

I've explored writing on cricket for a bit, but dislike the way the field is going with more and more preference going to anyone who has played cricket that can write/talk a bit (see: Arun Lal, Manjrekar) rather than people who are genuinely good analysts of the game and writers. Why do poyzz collapse so much? Why are you so much infatuated with Agarkar? Inzamam is widely regarded by "experts" as the greatest player of phaaast boiling but has little to nothing to show for it? Because they come from a system that gives mediocrity chance after chance rather than forcing mediocre players to improve. In a system so volatile that a team can change massively with one quick change of the captain and a selector, a batsman who gets dropped has little incentive to really improve and develop. A Faisal Iqbal or Farhat will get dropped, watch someone else like Butt or Misbah get dropped in their place soon after, then get recalled. Not to mention the lack of decent pitches there creating legions of flat track bullies who can whack through the line perfectly and do many things off the front foot, but then come undone at the first sign of seam movement, swing or sharp bounce. I make fun of Agarkar a lot because he is an easy target, and there is always material between his legendary streak of ducks, his hilarious bad spells at times and his penchant for unintentional comedy. Inzamam is massively overrated. He is a fine batsman and a top strokeplayer to watch when in full flow, but said experts have a particularly Pakistani brand of tunnel vision if they honestly believe he is anywhere near the likes of a Dravid, Waugh, Gower or even a Chanderpaul. Second favourite player - please see previous answer set. Ajit Agarkar or Mohammed Sami? For comedy value, Sami. Between the spectacularly high average and the hype about him, there's even more to make fun of than with Agarkar. To pick in a side - I'd go with Aag.

Ganguly was not a very versatile ODI batsman. He had to open the innings, maybe bat at 3. He was never a particularly successful middle order bat. Tendulkar and Gilchrist are obviously far preferable opening choices, and I'd take Ponting at 3 ahead of SCG. Waugh could be very effective in the middle order, and Azzu was always a fantastic (and much underrated) middle order strokeplayer. Not to mention I reckon that between Ganguly and Azhar, Azhar's fielding would also give him an edge in ODI selection. I would want St. Warne to captain both sides.

[Of course, it helps that it has lots of lamb, chicken and pork done in many awesome ways, which I like. Vegetarian + non-veg options = more to enjoy!'] So I usually drop in there on a lot of visits to NY. Helps that it is also walking distance from GCT! That said there are plenty of other top restos in NYC I am always happy to dine in - Sarvana Bhavan is one of them, and I am always happy to head there. (The onion rava dosa there is superb, and any place that has bisibelebhaat on the menu deserves to be applauded.) WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!! :woot: :woot: :woot:
