NEW DELHI: Had his improvised self-kidnap gone to plan, Pawan Verma would have been in Macau with his girlfriend, free of debt and ringing in the Twitter Facebook Share Email Print Save Comment new year with a couple of lakhs to spare. The 22-year-old's travel plans came to an abrupt end this weekend, thanks to his father who proved to be one step ahead. Pawan was arrested on Sunday as he turned up to collect his own "ransom" money of Rs 20 lakh in Dwarka, southwest Delhi, as cops lay in wait at a mall which was decided as the pickup venue. Pawan's friend Himanshu Raut, 22, who works at a pizza outlet, was also arrested for his role in the elaborate plot. Pawan's troubles began when his high-flying lifestyle and numerous girlfriends landed him in a debt of Rs 8.5 lakh, most of it spent at Delhi's most expensive pubs, bowling alleys and on luxury cars, by his own admission to cops. "Pawan was a regular at Mocha's Sheesha Club too. Due to his limited earnings, Pawan had accumulated a huge debt but he wanted to fulfill his girlfriend's wish," said DCP (central) Jaspal Singh. That wish was a new year getaway in Macau. Pawan, who had studied till Class XII, got together with his classmate, Raut, and plotted his own kidnapping to fund the trip, police said. On Saturday, he told his father Ram Sahay Verma, who runs an opticals business in Ghaffar market, that he was to meet a man regarding a theft at the shop. When Pawan did not return till evening, Verma called on his mobile which an "unknown person" picked up and told him that his son was being beaten up and would be released on payment of Rs 20 lakh ransom. Verma informed the police and a case was registered. Through the next 24 hours, the "kidnapper" sent several text messages to Verma to discuss the ransom, a police officer said. First, the caller asked Verma to go to Janakpuri, then Dhaula Kuan, even asking him to stop by at a local sweet shop -- all on SMS. Finally, the "kidnapper" settled on Citywalk Mall near Dwarka's Sector-9 where Pawan's brother, Puneet, was to drop the bag containing the money in the bushes. Minutes later, as the cops lay in wait, a man wearing black jacket turned up and picked up the bag. The police team nabbed him and a shocked Puneet identified his brother. "From his interogation, we zeroed in on the role of Himanshu, who was arrested from Sitapuri. It was Himanshu who kept a watch on Verma when he was on way to deliver the ransom," said DCP Singh. The motorcycle used by Himanshu was also seized. :icflove::icflove::icflove:

has to be son of a northie businessman, they are the 'risk' takers & money makers not like safe mode southies who depend on secure govt jobs I grew up in Bangalore, best place to be , best people to be around with, but definetely not Businessman type, no chance whatsoever, typical Bangalore father is more happy to marry his daughter to a Engineer, Doctor or a govt job employee, they just feel that business can fail anytime :cantstop: __________________ Don't let your emotions overcome you.
