Virat Kohli is the man!

Either way both Rohit and Virat are so much better than Umar Akmal. So its good that we've started to ignor Umar in this analysis as he is patently not good enough.
mate why are you bringing umar akmal into this all the time. that guy has a lot of talent and he is very young. too early to compare him with kohli or rohit yet.

Sorry obvious things don't need to be elaborated. waqar is actually 4 years older than what cricinfo says. Afridi is also 4 years older than what cricinfo says. Umar Akmal recently said to the press that he is 21 not 19. All the age related records held by Pakistan should be scrapped. It is bogus.
see its not wasy to keep track of dates when you are using stones and pebbles instead of a decent calender. so dont blame them alright.

I bring Umar into it as the original comparision before it was change by the editors was between Umar and Virat. I know this as I wrote the thread. Also we already know that Umar is not 19 and is actually 21 thus a comparison is entirely suitable.

leave umar aside .. leave kohli aside .. DK was in awesome flow today ..
Shows just how strong our batting line up is. I think if we put together a 2nd string batting ODI line up (Murali Vijay, Karthik, Rohit Sharma and so on), it would still be one of the strongest in the world.

All Virat Kohli fans, hold his coronation as the next "Star" until he performs consistently well against better bowling attacks than Sri Lanka and on livelier pitches than the ones on offer in the subcontinent. Not too long back he was struggling against Australia in the ODI series played here in India on some of the flattest pitches in the world. No other cricketing nation can 'boast' of fans who are as fickle as we are.

Have you seen Kohli play? He's performed in most games he's played. You pick out 2 or 3 good performances from Rohit from the infinite chances he was given and believe he should be ahead of Kohli :haha:
do you know how clueless you are? i picked them up to show how rohit has already made an impact as a matchwinner in complex conditions against strong opponents or near impsosible situations. none of kohli's knocks qualifies on the same criteria. i am pointing out the gap in maturity.at the moment ,rohit's chance of getting a 50 vs aus and sa is 20-30% more than kohli's. the reason for that is rohit's game is more mature and polished because he is senior.just as raina had a headstart over him. learn to the analyse the game and how players evolve.
ust to clarify the massive gap in performance between Virat and Rohit: Rohit, in 38 innings, scored 695 runs at an average of 24.82; Virat already has 584 runs from 15 innings at 44.92
only senior players are true performers. youngster are generally unreliable becaue they are immature and have a lot to learn. so what" performance" are you talkin about? to understand, here is a useful rerfence. in 2001 and 2002, hewittt had 2 gs titles, winning important titles like the year end masters and had a 7-2 record vs federer.federer was failing in GS during those years. who ended up the better player?

OK I'm the clueless one. I'm not doubting that he has talent. His innings in the CB series were pretty good, but apart from that he has been a failure. It don't matter who Kohli scored against, the fact is he scored. You can try and look at it whatever way you want, there were still some bowlers he faced that were good. Rohit may be one for the future, but he isn't one for now

well he ll face them on the flatbeds india provides.. so i am not sure he ll b tested against the saffies..
I'll be surprised if he averages 35+ for the series..assuming he gets to play. If he does though..he will have cemented his place in the side.

still there might be some difference facing walegedara/thushara/lakmal and steyn/ntini/morkel from wc11 prespective. i will keep him at no6... wont change his position much i just hope jadeja tightens up his batting.

Is kohli really that good to have an avg of 50+ or hes is just thriving on these flat beds?? curious to know how he wud do in the bowler friendly pitches..
Actually he did well in Australia too. He did well in SA too during under-19. He has good technique against both spin and pace. More importantly he doesn't waste starts. He doesn't get into awkward positions when the ball is short. He is confident. He is a genuine leader. He will one day captain India.

You can't blame him for the conditions he's been given. You still have to score on them. Lets at least give him a chance before labeling him a FTB
Look at Rohit Sharma. He failed on the same type of pitches. This guy has hit just 5 fours yet maintain a strike rate of 100. He is a real keeper for us.

Absolutely, at least give him a chance to fail, at the moment he has done little wrong. And he did face a very pacy West Indian attack (granted a second string one but very fast nonetheless) on a tough pitch at the Wanderers (even the Aussies struggled before Mitchell Johnson rescued them) and made an unbeaten 79.

\ Absolutely..you can't diss him unless hes been given an opportunity to prove otherwise. Full credit to him though..he has possibly made the brightest starts to a career among all the Indian youths tried out for sometime. Not even Sachin had this kind of a start. If he screws it all up..he will have only himself to blame.

It must be said though...what this tremendous start and run of consistency have done is that probably Kohli has given himself very little rope. You almost feel that he'll be judged very harshly if gets a few failures aginst competent attacks/seaming conditions. A bit like what happened with kambli. not saying itts correct..but thats how the men in charge are likely to see it.

we have genuine highly talented batsmen these days. in the past fringe batsmen lke mongia and sriram have been a disappointment.but times have changed. lesser known states and schools are producing international cricketers. nowdays i can guarantee that a batsman finding their way into the indian team is highly talented.this would not be the case for the first 70 years of our history. but the talent pool has now found depth in quality (in batting atleast) and its there to stay. the youngster in contention now are all talented and have promise. what lowers the discourse in the forum here is ignorant expectations and fickleness. first of all, youngsters cannot be reliable performers. because they don't have the maturity or the polished skills to do so at an international level. and what's this big deal about performance? at best they are going to be onoff performers.one shud not read too much into the intial years. if one looks at australia, their exceptional players get their chances earely-greg chappell, border, steve waugh, ponting. but many other players get their chances only after thousands of runs and bagful of wickets in the domestic competition. there is a reason behind it right? i read martyn saying -" if you are going to fill your team with 21 year and 23 year olds, you are not going to win much". first of all, expecting younsgters to be consistent performers is impractical. second this habit of supporting a player when he is in good form and dissing someone when they are going thru a bad phase is also futile and foolish. now one player may be doing well. but he may go thru the slump next year. the player in poor form this year may be the star next year. this means that kohli will go thru a slump just like raina or rohit did earlier. but to think that temporary form reflects how good or bad a player is relative to another is rubbish. the simple fact is they are all learning the game, will take some years to be a established cricketer and will go through good and bad phases.
