What do Pak batsmen lack ? Talent or Guts/Temperament

I think alot of times the pathetic " talunt" of Pak players is passed of as " mercurial talent" , "explosive talent", devoid of temperament. Looking at the way they keep recycling trash like Imran Nazir, Razzaq, Faisal Iqbal, Misbah..etc., Pakistan in fact produces the least talented batters in the world, at par with NZ at best.

Some things never change. It's insane how former Pak players, admins keep talking about how the " extremely" talented teeam fails because of indiscipline and temperament - as if it's just not possible for their ilk to lack the obvious talent. Here we see the original cornered donkey Immi Khan...saying what he has said forver. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/top-stories/Pakistan-squandered-a-golden-opportunity-Imran-Khan/articleshow/5421241.cms

"Our team has lot of talent but they are short on temperament and this was visible in the way we allowed Australia to comeback and win the test in Sydney," Imran said. _________________________________________________________________________________________
Khan Mian, when your batters collapse again and again and again, its not temperament.

Bottomline, some of the Pakistani players are clearly very unsavory characters. You just look at their track record of on/off-field transgressions and it's crystal clear that we're talking about very unstable individuals here. So obviously, if you field a eleven of drug addicts and match-fixing/pitch dancing/ball tampering cheats, obviously, its only a matter of time before things go wrong. On top of that, Pakistan has this shocking habit of glorifying the wrong characters. In a country like India, the most respected cricketers are guys like Sachin, Dravid, VVS and Kumble. In Pakistan however, the guys who have the biggest following are people like Afridi and Akhtar. If these the role-models that the young pakistanis are aspiring to follow, then its no wonder most of their young talent coming out of their system have their priorities all mixed up.

More than temperament or talent, its the insecurity that plays on their players' mind. Considering how PCB works, even if Umar Akmal were to fail in 3/4 odd games now, they'd have no second thoughts in dropping him to bring some old, tried and failed senior back in the line up. Fawad Alam who had a decent outing whilst in the team was taken to Australia only to be sent-off after MCG test despite their batting order needing a major overhaul. It's not only the PCB but the captain's mindset (which is so speculative and negative) when it comes to picking a youngster in an alien field. Now the talks are that Afridi will be back in the third test and should be the captain of their TEST team :dontknow:. I mean how can they pamper someone so much who decided to quit test cricket a few years ago only to come back and only to temporary retire again. Another fine example of senior ruling their roster is Kamran Akmal's presence in the team as a WK. If anything they should've taken his gloves off and given to someone else and picked Kamran as a specialist batsman only. Talent/temperament does not come naturally to most of the players, which is why these players have to be given more chances rather than having to be worried about their place in playing XI if they do not perform. I might sound bias, but this is where MSD stands out as a captain because of his man-management skills. All of us know how badly we wanted Rohit Sharma out of the team but despite that MSD kept giving him chances to perform. Once he thought RS had a fair amount of time to prove his worth and still did not satisfy team's needs, he was dropped without any hesitation. Same applies to IKP, RP, YK and now IS case. GG came out to be a different batsman altogether because he was played under a cloud of comfort, he was guaranteed his place for certain time without any concerns over his score. We are so very lucky to have a captain in MSD :hail:

Yes from the current pak squad, but afridi and akhtar are two different things, which will never come again, no doubt afridi has failed so many times when it comes to performance but because what he has achieved people never look at his failures- and mind you he has achieved alot, recently a t20 world cup winner. akhtar- untill 2005 akhtar was the best-100mph, after that he has faded away, he is no more star and on talent stuff, those experts like richie benud, and all other commentaors dont just say it for fun about how talented cricketers pakistan produces. offcource we not going to have full team of great talent, but when you keep finding bowlers like aamer and batsman like umar, pakistan is not going anywhere!

O come on be sensible! What is the pak obssession with the mediocre Afridi? Please clarify as to non pak fans its baffling that someone so mediocre and at times awful has such popularity. Its like indian fans idolising someone like Y Pathan!

go and have a look on his profile, it starts something like this 'In cricket, Shahid Afridi is the maddest of mad maxes. A flamboyant allrounder introduced to international cricket as a 16-year-old legspinner' his records doesnt suggest why pakistanis like him so much, but the way he plays the game, you dnt know whats coming your way, srilanka didnt when they first bowled at him, harbhajan didnt when he bowled to him, and balaji didnt either, to be fair any indian didnt once in chennai 1999, and then 45 ball century was something awwsome, when you such a violence against india, you really are a star in pakistan. afridi officilay wrote his name on the books of legends during 2009 world cup.

Complete lack of temperament in the vast majority of their batsmen. "Talent" is way overrated - at this level, all of the major nations have players gifted enough to play good shots. Only Pakis make it sound as if it is a big achievement. Frankly it is laughable that a "Test" side can have a top 7 containing Butt, Iqbal, Misbah, Kamran Akmal (his batting is wayyyyyyy overrated by poyzzz like most things) and Farhat.
