"Everyone has hit a good vein of form and morale is certainly high within the team," said Root. Root has shown signs this tournament of why he has drawn favourable comparisons with another well-known Yorkshire batsman - Michael Vaughan. The former England skipper was raving about his protege during a rain break in the fourth Test at the Wanderers. Root cracked an unbeaten 70 from 82 balls against Hong Kong, followed by 25 versus Afghanistan. In both games Root and fellow opener Chris Dent put on more than 50 for the first wicket. "I've felt quite good out in the middle," he added. "There are always things here and there that you can always improve on but I'm feeling in decent nick." Another hefty opening stand would go some way to helping England beat India but Root knows all 11 players will need to perform. "We'll basically be preparing over the next day or two as we would for any game," he said. "You're always looking to try and go out hard against any opposition, regardless of their ranking. Your plans to certain batsman and the way you'll play particular bowlers can obviously differ from side to side but you have to adapt once you're out there. "I reckon India will be a strong side but the way were playing gives us a lot of confidence and we believe we can continue to do well on Thursday. We've got a strong squad all the way through so there's no reason we can't go out there and win."

For these under-19 cricketers, bred on the intensity of Indo-Pak clashes, the game is a dream come true. While Indo-Pak ties are never short of context, the outright rejection of Pakistan players by the eight IPL franchises has only turned up the heat. Shrill voices from across the border have accused Indians of many things, but the under-19 team is not about to join them. “There is no effect of that on these boys. They’re just kids and have been playing good cricket,” said Rana. “The boys talk about playing India, but we have never thought along the lines that we have to get revenge (for what happened in the IPL auction.) They just want to play freely.” The sizeable Indian and Pakistani diaspora here have already begun making plans. “I usually work on Saturdays, but I’ll have to be there. Pakistan opted to bowl first in the match, which became a 23-overs-a-side affair due to overnight rain, and skittled out India for a paltry 114 for nine. In reply, Pakistan huffed and puffed their way to the target in 22.3 overs thanks to some valuable late order contributions to keep their unbeaten run at the event intact. The Pakistani top order collapsed and the team score read 16 for three in just under seven overs. However, Ahsan Ali brought them back into the match with a 45-ball 30 before being run out by Jaydev Unadkat. Wickets tumbled at regular intervals but Pakistan kept themselves in the hunt with some brisk scoring. Mayank Aggarwal didn't last long either and after contributing just two runs to the total, he followed his fellow opener back to the pavillion, edging one from Butt to wicket-keeper Mohammad Waqas. In came Mandeep Singh, who quickly got into the task of rebuilding the innings. Although his 40-run knock had just two boundaries, his quick running between the wickets ensured that innings0 took just 44 deliveries. But barring Mandeep's valiant effort, it was a shoddy display by the rest of the line-up as Pakistani bowlers exploited the seaming conditions on an overcast day to the fullest. Butt returned figures of 4 for 27 in his four overs and his effort was well complemented by left-arm spinner Raza Hasan, who picked up three wickets, conceding 26 runs in five overs. The match came in the backdrop of heightened political tensions between the two countries after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. India u-19 - pathetic team selection the u-19 team which won the u-19 wc in 2008 had players like kohli, tanmay srivastava, jadeja who were already established players in the domestic level and played in the challengers trophy in 2007 as well. looking at this years u-19 squad, none of the players apart from harmeet singh even played in the ranji trophy this year also, why bhuvneshwar kumar, kamran khan and aushik srinivas were left out of the u-19 world cup squad??? all 3 of these were eligible for the u-19 wc looking at this years u-19 squad, it was easily the worst u-19 wc squad we have ever had when the 2 best u-19 players of the country werent even selected. the fact that only 1 of the players from the squad have played in ranji trophy tells it all

Can't really say so. These guys (yes the same team) have defeated most u-19 teams in the last one year (Won a series in Aus, also in SA , SL etc). The very ordinary performance of the leading spinner Harmeet Singh (who played for Mumbai this season and did well) affected the overall performance a lot as that meant no good bowling option during the middle overs. In any case this is a young team , lets not be too harsh on the boys. They gave it their all, fought really hard and with some luck could have been in the semis. And also for once , let's say well done to Pakistan. Their spinners were truly wonderful during the last 6-7 overs.

Restricted to 8-232, Australia had cause for concern, especially if threatening weather prevented it getting 20 overs through to ensure a match was achieved. Had it not been able to do that, New Zealand would have claimed the semi-final berth. But some sharp catching, after a diffident start, turned the match in Australia's favour. Mitchell Marsh had achieved the best innings batting at No.3 for his side when hitting 53 from 59 balls before he was run out by Harry Boam. Nicholas Maddinson had scored 37 opening the innings while Timothy Armstrong held the lower-order together with a patient 39 from 66 balls. Support came from Thomas Triffitt who hit 23 from 30 balls, to see Australia bat out its 50 overs with wickets in hand. None of the New Zealand bowlers got on top of the Australians although slow bowler Timothy Johnston was economic with 1-36 from his 10 overs. New Zealand lost its key batsman, Harry Boam, early when he scored only six before he was bowled by slow bowler Jason Floros.
