Offspinner Johan Botha has been named in South Africa's squad for the two Tests against India next month, marking his return after the 2008 tour of Bangladesh. Another notable inclusion in the 15-man team was left-arm fast bowler Lonwabo Tsotsobe, who was part of the touring party to Australia last year. There was no place for fast bowlers Makhaya Ntini and Friedel de Wet, both of whom had been part of the recently concluded home Test series against England. "It is important to have a second specialist spin bowling option for a Test series on the subcontinent," Mike Procter, Cricket South Africa's (CSA's) selection convener, said. "We feel this squad covers all our tactical options and will give a good account of itself." For the three ODIs that follow, the selectors have picked opener Loots Bosman after his impressive performances during the two Twenty20 internationals against England, where he hit 58 and 94. It was during his second knock, at Centurion, that he also shared a world-record opening partnership of 170 with captain Graeme Smith. Having returned to full fitness this summer after a succession of injuries, Bosman would provide "an explosive hitting option up front", according to Procter. "This will be the ideal opportunity for him to show his worth on the subcontinent where next year's World Cup will be played," Procter said. However, Hashim Amla, Ryan McLaren and Charl Langeveldt failed to make the cut for the 15-man one-day squad, from the one that took on England. Procter indicated, though, that the trio were still "in the running for the World Cup next year." While Nagpur will host the first Test from February 6-10, the second will be played in Kolkata from February 14-18. The three ODIs will be hosted by Jaipur, Kanpur and Ahmedabad on February 21, 24 and 27 respectively. Test squad Graeme Smith (capt), Hashim Amla, Johan Botha, Mark Boucher (wk), AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Paul Harris, Jacques Kallis, Ryan McLaren, Morne Morkel, Wayne Parnell, Alviro Petersen, Ashwell Prince, Dale Steyn, Lonwabo Tsotsobe. ODI squad Graeme Smith (capt), Loots Bosman, Johan Botha, Mark Boucher (wk), AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Herschelle Gibbs, Jacques Kallis, Albie Morkel, Morne Morkel, Wayne Parnell, Alviro Petersen, Dale Steyn, Lonwabo Tsotsobe, Roelof van der Merwe. http://www.cricinfo.com/indvrsa2010/content/current/story/444953.html NO NTINI :((

Ntini axed for South Africa's tour of India Johannesburg: Makhaya Ntini was on Monday left out of the South African squad for next month's tour of India. Ntini, who completed 100 Test matches during England's tour of South Africa earlier, was dropped after the first Test owing to an ordinary performance. Xhoss-speaking Lonwabo Tsotsobe, Ntini's Warriors' franchise team-mate, has been preferred. Spinner Johan Botha was also recalled to the South African Test squad after a gap of nearly two years. Botha's selection will put pressure on Paul Harris to perform after his disappointing performance in Cape Town With the selectors expressing disappointment at Harris not taking wickets at a crucial stage against England at Newlands, it was left to JP Duminy to rescue South Africa and bring them close to winning the game. Paceman Friedel de Wet, who made his debut in the series against England, also missed out due to an injury. Cricket South Africa (CSA) selection convener Mike Procter named the respective 15-man squads for the Test match and ODI segments of the tour. The Proteas leave for India on January 30 and will play two Tests and three ODIs. "It is important to have a second specialist spin bowling option for a Test series on the Asian sub-continent," commented Procter. "We feel this squad covers all our tactical options and will give a good account of itself." In the ODI squad, maverick batsman Herschelle Gibbs was brought back to bolster the line-up. Gibbs was left out of the original squad that took on England in the one-day series, but was recalled after an injury to Jacques Kallis. Big hitting opening batsman Loots Bosman was recalled following his brilliant comeback in the Twenty20 international against England when he made 94 and helped Graeme Smith share a world record opening partnership. He replaced Hashim Amla in the limited overs squad. "We feel that Bosman gives us an explosive hitting option up front and this will be the ideal opportunity for him to show his worth on the sub-continent where next year’s World Cup will be played. "There are several players who are unlucky not to make the ODI squad including Hashim Amla, Ryan McLaren and Charl Langeveldt and I must emphasise that they are all still in the running for the World Cup next year," Procter added. Test squad: Graeme Smith (capt), Hashim Amla, Johan Botha, Mark Boucher, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Paul Harris, Jacques Kallis, Ryan McLaren, Morne Morkel, Wayne Parnell, Alviro Petersen, Ashwell Prince, Dale Steyn, Lonwabo Tsotsobe. ODI squad: Graeme Smith (capt), Loots Bosman, Johan Botha, Mark Boucher, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Herschelle Gibbs, Jacques Kallis, Albie Morkel, Morne Morkel, Wayne Parnell, Alviro Petersen, Dale Steyn, Lonwabo Tsotsobe, Roelof van der Merwe.

anyone knows why we are playing SA at home again .. we played them in a 2 test series and now we should tour SA right :dontknow:
It was just going to be 5 one days. Then India became no 1 and everybody started cribbing that India was scheduled to play only 4 tests in 2010 -2 against Bangladesh and 2 agains NZ at home I think. So suddenly the board decided India need atleast a couple of more tests if they needed to hold on to the no 1 spot for a bit longer and 5 one days became 3 one days and 2 tests.

No it wasnt. It was supposed to be a full tour with 3 tests and 5 odis but because of the bastardized IPL, we only get 2 tests

Charl Langeveldt in SA ODI squad Fast bowler Charl Langeveldt has been added to South Africa's ODI squad for the three-match series in India. Langeveldt's inclusion adds further strength to a pace attack comprising four specialists - Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, Lonwabo Tsotsobe and Wayne Parnell - and two allrounders - Jacques Kallis and Albie Morkel. "We do not believe that we have all our bases covered at the moment in the bowling department," Gerald Majola, Cricket South Africa's chief executive and convenor of the national selection panel, said. "We have two major ICC tournaments coming up - first the ICC World Twenty20 in the West Indies and then next year's ICC World Cup on the subcontinent - and it is important that we explore all our options. "Charl also brings much needed experience to our attack. He has played 64 matches while Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel and Wayne Parnell have played only 67 matches between them. Johan Botha is the only other specialist bowler in the squad with 50 ODI appearances." Langeveldt, who was part of the team that played England, had initially been omitted from the 15-man squad chosen by the selection panel headed by Mike Procter. ODI squad: Graeme Smith, Loots Bosman, Johan Botha, Mark Boucher, AB de Villiers, JP Duminy, Herschelle Gibbs, Jacques Kallis, Charl Langeveldt, Albie Morkel, Morne Morkel, Wayne Parnell, Alviro Petersen, Dale Steyn, Lonwabo Tsotsobe, Roelof van der Merwe.
