I personally liked the older version .The new video is bad ,too many bollywood celebrities ****ed the song up the in th name of modernising it and its centered too much around mumbai.

yep don't like the new one. Apart from the celebrities the old one also had a lot of common man or ordinary folks. The new one is just glorified. Salma still is missing a shirt and Deepika couldn't find a shorter dress.

:WTF: are Dipika, Priyanka, Salman, Aamir are doing in a song which represents our culture, languages and traditions. Older one is better balanced than newer one which has overdose of Bollywood celebrities. But it is a reflection of present society where Bollywood is becoming our culture !!

That the new one is not as good as the original one is no surprise really. From most accounts the arts and literature field has taken a big hit over the years and this is clearly evident here. More style and little substance if you ask me. The big shock to me is that for the most parts I am not even able to pick the folks who appear in the new videos. In the original one you had luminaries like Bhimsen Joshi and Lata Mangeshkar. Even though I am not the most knowledgable folk on Southern issues I could pick Kamal Hassan, Balmurali Krishna, Ramanathan Krishnan, Revathi, Padukone etc. As compared to these the new video features Shankar, Ehsaan???? WTf! Most of the Southie folks, specially heroes/heroines, drew complete blank from me. In a strange way the two video shows the emergence of India and at the same time its decline. There was another great video made by Lok Seva Sanchar Samiti featuring sportsmen and I vividly rememer Srikanth rubbing shoulders with Merwyn Fernandez and Zafar Iqbal. If such a video was made today I wonder how many players outside of cricket would even be considered?? xxx

'Sachin, Kalam eclipsed in Phir mile sur' Phir mile sur, the new version of the vibrant music video of 1988 showcasing the myriad colours and hues of India, features over 65 prominent faces from various walks of life, but viewers are critical of an overdose of Bollywood and exclusion of legends like Sachin Tendulkar and former president APJ Abdul Kalam. The 16-minute-long video is available on Youtube site and surfers thronged it after it was unveiled on Tuesday on the occasion of the 61st Republic Day. They have posted their reactions too. Many say it has been dominated by Bollywood personalities and exclusion of iconic Tendulkar or Abdul Kalam eclipses the true essence of national integration. "I don't understand what those Bollywood people are doing in there? It's like India is just about Bollywood. They could have shown all these Khans (Salman, Shah Rukh and Aamir) in a frame like they showed in the old song. And no sports heroes, no political leaders, no one... this was like another film song. Very disappointing," posted surfer named as sandhu2111 soon after the video was unveiled. Another one said: "The old one was more loved by us... this video is more of Bollywood. National icons like Sachin Tendulkar, scientist like Kalamji (A.P.J. Abdul Kalam) are not there, instead Deepika Padukone is showing her legs." "How can Deepika's legs help us to initiate the national integration feeling... Should have cast more national heroes who made us proud... guys, words from Sachin is more mass appealing than Deepika, Karan Johar and Abhishek Bachchan," said the post. Mile sur plays again with new faces There, indeed, seems to be an overdose of Bollywood in Phir mile sur, with not only megastar Amitabh Bachchan but his son Abhishek, daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai along with Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty and Juhi Chawla featuring in it. Viewers feel the video has not done justice to national icons. "Where are the fighters like Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar? Where is our eminent scientist A.P.J Abdul Kalam? Where are our prize-winning authors? Is 'Mile sur' only for artistes? What is Deepika Padukone doing showing her legs. Sania Mirza should have been there. Where is Vishwanathan Anand, Leander Paes, Rajyavardhan Rathore?" posted a surfer. "However, I appreciate the message on women's education, women empowerment and Salman's effort with deaf and dumb," added the surfer. Another added: "Whoever made this music video should note that India is not only about Bollywood. The makers of the video have definitely not done justice to the title 'Mile sur mera tumhaara'. Parts attached to Deepika, Ash-Abhi, Ranbir and SRK make no sense and are just forced into the video. There are a few bright aspects as well in the form of parts attached to Priyanka, Salman, Mahesh Babu and Aamir." Some have commented on the wardrobe of the celebs. "Taking into account the nature of the video, the least the people featured in it could have done was to dress appropriately. The old video was really special! The new one is just an attempt, that's all." "Aren't there any other great personalities other than movie actors and musicians in India? It's a shame not having personalities like Abdul Kalam, Ratan Tata, Ambanis in this song," said a surfer. The new video, Phir mile sur, travels to 15 locations with over 68 known personalities, be it Bollywood's macho man Salman Khan or badminton ace Saina Nehwal or musician A Sivamani. From beaches to deserts, from mosques and temples to high rises, it gives a feel of modern India. Each artiste speaks of a cause and the video is shot at places which have historic value and significance. Amitabh Bachchan has featured both in the original and in the new one. Corporate couple Arti and Kailash Surendranath have produced Phir mile sur.
No wonder it has most of the bollywood people. its is sponsored by one of those page three people

Sucks to be Gen-Y&Z. The southies are not so famous outside south India. Tamil (Surya and Vikram), Telugu (Mahesh Babu). But KJ Yesudas from Malayalam and also Kavitha Krishnamurthy (Kannada). (I don't think. she's even from Karnataka BTW.) are pretty famous faces outside south India. Sonu Nigam's and Shaan's Aamir Khan's the worst part. WTF is that fusion?

^^ KJ Yesudas and Kavita Krishnamoorthy are very popular in North India too CR, I might have missed them. Although I am not a huge fan of Kavitha Krishnamoorthy high pitch voice, I do like Yesudas.

Another opinion - The advertisement is supposed to highlight our current culture of the society. The culture is defined by - entertainment (bollywood), sports (cricket, shooting, etc.), scientific community (ISRO, IT Industry, Medicine advances), economic growth (Dalal Street), etc. All the important individuals from across all these fields should appear ALONG WITH unknown common people to give the ad a people-view. It just focuses on Bollywood and musicians (only some of whom deserve to be on the advertisement) which is very depressing. Finally, this also displays the dominance of television in Indian household. Prominent personalities/groups that should have appeared on the TV ad - 1. Cricket Group/Individuals - SRT, Dada, Dravid, Viru, Dhoni, UV (all have Padma Shri) and also Zak+Bhajji. Along with Women's cricket prominent players (maybe some old ones too if possible) 2. Pugilist Vijender, Badminton Player Sania Nehwal, Shooter Abhinav Bindra, Billards Player Pankaj Advani, etc. 3. Indian Hockey team's important players e.g. Dhanraj Pillay, etc. 4. Prominent Scientific personalities e.g. CR Rao, K Chandrashekharan. 5. Important Engineering Solutions (if not the previous point) - ISRO's shuttle launch, Tata Nano, etc. 6. Economic Growth - I can at the present only come up with Amartya Sen but he is NRI (although Anoushka Shankar featured) 7. Bollywood personalities - Big B, SRK, Aamir, Sallu, Aish, Priyanka Chopra, Konkana Sen (all are critically acclaimed and also very popular). 8. Great Classical Musicians - a few were included but Pt. Bhimsen Joshi were missed, Pdt. Ravi Shankar (although his daughter was there), Lata Mangeshkar, etc. were greatly missed. This song has a classical vibe to it but seemed to have been re-mixed. That was very disappointing! But, the classical elements were very impressive.

The new one is horrible. I just hate it, Bengalis are wrongly portrayed. Bengali gals arent wrapped in 'Sarees' and Bengali 'men' arent wrapped in 'Paijama/Kurta/Punjabi' al the time. Dats effing stupidity. Wrong msg to people who have little knowledge abt our culture.

Uncle Arun Lal in Mile sur mera tumhara Has anyone noticed the legend in the original version on mile sur. He the guy who comes out of the train and give a charming smile

Posted

the original mile sur was produced by the Indian Films division if I am not wrong, where as this is by a "corporate couple"(what does that mean?) Lurker, there are still luminaries, Gopichand, ARR, Mohanlal, Narayana Murthy etc etc, they just glamorized the whole thing, thats why it sucks
