It has much more features than a kindle, but i would like to think that it is a rich man's ipod touch..but it looks really cool and if apple does manage to rake in a lot of publishers then this product will be a big hit and the "ibook" store will provide a lot of ebooks which can be downloaded upon. Also the no data plan option will work good IMO, i am sure the price of this thing will come down after sometime and then i ll go for it, everyplace has a wifi spot now so internet access will be much easier when we have an ipad around, the features in ipad does look good so as i said more publishers and a bit down on the price i will definitely go for it

Seems to be missing a real storage like a SSD or a way to install real apps (other than those built for iphone/itouch). I would be interested in a device which has the form factor and on-screen keboard features etc of an iTab but is more of a macbook than an iTouch.
