8-1 / 7-2 required to save the game. The same defensive fields set to frustrate the hell out of Aussies that cost them a test in 2008. Saffies are a very defensive set of batters in tests, especially kallis and amla. Kallis infact has a test strike rate even lower than Dravid. There is no effing way we should allow them to score at more than 2.5 RPO or for that matter rest of the Saffie line up. This test match is an effing draw unless our batters have a bad session or Steyn and Co have a great session. we need to slow the scoring rate at all costs.

come on guys... that was the first day pitch... dont invite your self to huge pie that you wont be able to eat. Well, learn to swallow becaus3e bhajji will do fine on last two days. without support from the pitch, you dont expect spinners to be effective. SA spinners were played brilliently by Board 11's # 6 and 7. pitch was bit on a slow side with out much turn, it is very easy to play bhajji. The result is draw this time.

This team has in the past few years shown that they are fully capable of staging a comeback in the match from nearly impossible situations. And there's no reason to believe why that can't happen again tomorrow. 12 sessions still left in the test, SA have the upper hand now but one good session with the ball and we are right back into it.

It is easy to eke out a draw from South Africa. Because they also try to go for draws first before contemplating on wins. They are no Aussies.
If and when they rattle up a 500+ score..it would be us itching to eke out a draw. Therefore we need to delay and deny the run scoring as much as possible - because a draw is the best result we can get out of this game.

Dude, are you guys for real? Day one of the first test has just got over - on a flat track our bowlers did a decent enough job and you want us to play for a draw????? I am not being some supreme optimist out here, but in the modern game till the opposition can score 450 against you there is no way they are safe, specially in this case when they have been scoring so slowly. Our team has won a match away after conceding 550 runs in the first innings with TAV as the strike bowler, FFS and we have all these 'play for a draw' analysts out of the woodwork after the first day of a test!! Yeah, the odds are stacked against India at the moment but the match can transform very quickly on Indian tracks and if for some reason this remains a patta do you really think South Africa can bowl India twice in 250 overs!!

I hope I am proved totally wrong. But I have reasons for my skepticism and pessimism. 1) 2 test debutants bats , one of whom ( Badri ) , in spite of a great domestic record is not really known for scoring in crunch matches. The other is a specialist WK. They are reaplacing names like Dravid and VVS. 2) Gambhir has had such an unbelievable dream run that odds of him doing his magic again are higher each time he steps on the field with the bat. He is human. Law of averages means he is due a failure in a match. 3) Sehwag ,our best match winner by far ,but a bit of a lottery. Lag gaya toh SA bowlers pe tarse ga, out hua jaldi toh apni vaat hai. Bhajji and Zakky will need to be at their best with the bat, especially the former who continues to bowl darts on leg stump. I hope I am proved wrong.

Patriot is poor man's fineleg.
If that means reading the game more realistically, than yeah. From the horse's mouth. http://cricket.rediff.com/report/2010/feb/06/we-were-forced-to-employ-a-semi-defensive-field-dhoni.htm
"Every session will be crucial now," he quipped. "It is important now to contain them if we are not able to get wickets." The last statement was probably an accurate reflection of his team's confidence levels after Saturday's vapid effort.
And what is Dhoni ? Some Punjabi_Khota ? :hysterical:

Thats poor form. You can't become a great team or hold on to he number one spot playing for the draw after one freakin day. India has to back themselves to bowl them out for under 450. 4 days left, plenty of time to wrestle themselves back into it. Harbhajan needs to show up today.
