Feed Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 Ravindra Jadeja, India's hero with the ball in the Jaipur ODI on Sunday, says he wants to win matches for the country with the bat too. Jadeja took two wickets for 29 runs in ten overs, including two maidens, to play a crucial role in India's thrilling one-run last ball victory over South Africa in the first One-Day International. virufan Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 I think Jaddu is a great ODI find last year. He made 60 good runs in one of the ODIs and took a 5-for in another. And then this alround performance yesterday. Good that the IPL drubbing has not impacted his performance.
Cricket Passion Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 i am becoming slowly a fan of him! He has got everything to become great ODI player!
Sachinism Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 His batting is still a concern, he doesn't have that ability to power a boundary if needed
zubinpepsi Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 ^^ but more than a batsman, we need a bowler who can contain and take wkts.. Jadeja is doing a great job in bowling.. and he can chip a away with a run a ball 20s and 30s.. I think this is enough . he shud be a permanent player in ODI..
Cricket Passion Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 i him as a good batsman than bowler... he can bat at any position! Handy than Yusuf Pathan in ODIs
jusarrived Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 ^ haha He needs to be used up the order , cos i think he can play the anchors role pretty well ..I can see him avg close 40 with the bat in ODI's if given proper chance up the order .
ViruRulez Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 I am also quite impressed with both his bowling and batting .. he is improving but he still needs to fix his consistency
flamy Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 I'm still doubtful abt his batting :headshake:
Cricket Passion Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 He is very good in batting, he should bat up the order...! but i am surprised now with his inspiring bowling!
ViruRulez Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 He is very good in batting' date= he should bat up the order...! but i am surprised now with his inspiring bowling! I would not say very good in batting .. he will improve as he gains confidence but frankly speaking if you notice properly even his full-strength shots just cross the inner-circle .. so I surely see a lack of power in his batting and would not say he is very good in batting .. he can gain confidence and batting capabilities but it is hard to gain power and that is what all the top 6 have irrespective of their ages
kabira Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 I would bat him at 4 and see how he responds.
Watson87 Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 I think he will do better in test, he's a better bowler than Mishraji
Ram Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 I smell something fishy in his nomination as MoM. Yes, he certainly performed well, but surely Kallis with his 89 runs and 2 crucial wickets + the captaincy deserved it better. I wonder who made the selection and wouldnt be surprised to know if it was Ravi Shastri. What makes me suspectful was because Ravi brought up the totally unrelated issue of Jadeja's IPL suspension in the post-match presentation, as he though he wanted to prop up the youngster and give him a chance at redemption. Maybe Ravi felt Jadeja was treated unfairly by the IPL organizers and wanted to give him a lift.
Ram Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 But on the topic itself, Jadeja is an EXCELLENT no.8. His spinning skills are extremely under-rated, he is a decent fielder and a capable bat. In fact, his presence at no.8 was probably why we managed to score 298 after being in trouble right after Yusuf's dismissal and thats precisely why I have been shouting incessantly for having batting till no.8, followed by the bowlers. Unfortunately, the lack of a fast-bowling all-rounder is preventing that from happening.
Show_stopper Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 I think we can depend on him for 25 runs on a consistent basis..not bad at all considering the position he comes in at. Also #8 position is perfect fit for him. As he has shown his bowling is where his real value lies in. Thats twice now he has made the difference on these flat pitches in India(he was also responsible for our victory against SL at cuttack recently). I also would like to add that Harbhajan should be batting at #7 when he returns. He might not be technically as good as Jadeja but as he has shown in the past 1 year..he can score at a healthy strike rate. This combined with our top 6 should ensure our consistency with the bat. Also we need not rely on part timers as we'll have 5 frontline bowlers.

Every opportunity they got, they mentioned it :wall:
thevortex Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 I would love it if Ravindra Jadeja can actually impart some spin onto the ball. Right now he is bowling a deadly mix of sliders and arm balls for the most part. I hope he realizes that if he actually does develop a good, stock away going delivery then he can be picked for Test matches as well.
