Yes. Lara was dropped at the start of his career because WI didn't have batting vacancies.

I don't think Kallis, Donald and S Pollock have been dropped either. So also about Graeme Pollock, Barry Richards, Mike Proctor (careers curtailed by apaartheid) and pretty sure plenty of players of the past era like George Headley, the 3 W's etc. Ambrose, Stephen Fleming, Miandad among more recent players... You can't really come up with a complete list for this.
