It will be played in the WI from Apr 30th to May 16th. The teams have been divided in to the following groups: Group A - Pakistan (A1), Bangladesh (A2) and Australia Group B - Sri Lanka (B1), New Zealand (B2) and Zimbabwe Group C - South Africa(C1), India (C2) and Qualifier 1 (Afghanistan) Group D - West Indies (D1), England (D2) and Qualifier 2 (Ireland) Schedule For Ind, once again they will be playing it after the IPL so it has its advantages (being well oiled) and disadvantages (burn out). I hope we don't just select the team based on reputation (like we did last time) and ignore form (didn't select guys like Panday and Nehra, who looked better than some of the guys selected) For me, the one below should be a good squad of 16: Batsmen (including WK): Sehwag, Gambhir, Panday, Yuvi, Karthik, Dhoni, Raina, YP and Kohli Bowling all-rounders: Jadeja and IP Bowlers: Zak, Nehra, PK, Bhajji and Mishy Ofc, good/bad performances in IPL would decide the final squad

I didn't know that the probables list was out! .... Shouldn't most of those playing in the IPL be probables as to get in to the WC team should be one of the motivations to do well in the IPL. If I recall correctly, Selectors had shot the gun in announcing the probables last time too

If I recall correctly' date=' Selectors had shot the gun in announcing the probables last time too[/quote'] They don't have a choice for ICC events - there are strict deadlines by which the probable list and then the final squad have to be announced. Changes can be made only for genuine injuries after that, which have to be approved by the ICC.

I would have Raina in there in place of Kohli and also have a spot for Rohit Sharma - he's great in 20-20s. Plus would prefer to have Ojha in place of Mishra. Somehow it's more difficult to score against left arm spinners than leg or off spinners.

I have Raina in the squad (added him in the edit as I forget to add his name earlier), b/w Rohit and Kohli, I would prefer Kohli Ojha is a good choice too but since Jadeja is in such a good form now-a-days I would prefer him as the left-arm spinner. Mishy gives the option of a leggie, which is something that I like. Leggies could be useful when playing teams like WI, Eng, NZ, etc. When they are looking to score quickly and when the leggie is mixing it up, they can lose wkts (thus momentum)

I don't see Kohli as a big hitter. Kohli's more solid no doubt and I would prefer to have him in odis or tests but in 20-20s Rohit has the ability to go for the big shots. Rohit Sharma is a different batsman in 20-20s when he bats at 6 and has the license to go for his shots. I haven't seen similar big hitting ability in Kohli. I would have both Ojha and Jadeja in the team ahead of Mishra. Somehow leggies can go for lots whereas left arm spinners can manage to control the big hits. I mean look at Vettori, Shakib, Ojha, Jadeja - I haven't seen too many games where these guys were taken apart.

Btw, usually we get to see upsets in WCs w/ one (or even two) of the top teams getting knocked out earlier than it (/they) should like WI in 2007, Aus in 2009 so who (possibly) would it (/they) be in 2010?

Group A - Pakistan (A1), Bangladesh (A2) and Australia Group B - Sri Lanka (B1), New Zealand (B2) and Zimbabwe Group C - South Africa(C1), India (C2) and Qualifier 1 (Afghanistan) Group D - West Indies (D1), England (D2) and Qualifier 2 (Ireland)
Looking at the groups: - BD could sent either Aus or Pak crashing early on. BD have beaten some of the top teams in the WCs in the past. They take on Pak in the opening game of that group. Pak losing would become the first case of a defending champion being knocked out in the first round - Afghanistan is a relatively new team but it's playing Ind in the opening group of that game. Ind has the tendency to adapt its game to the opposition's and be over confident at times - Ireland could have a good day against either WI or Eng - SL and NZ bash minnows well so I don't see them getting in to that much problem as much as some of the other teams

i have zero hope of winning this with this bowling lineup' date='i am going to enjoy it though.hope the windies pull it off, they really need it.[/quote'] Sadly have to agree with you... with our bowling lineup our batsmen will have to put up 180+ most of the time to be competitive. We have a better chance in 50 overs odis where our batting lineup and accasional spin bowlers could make a difference, but not so in 20-20

The odd collapse is inevitable.

I think it's a fallacy that indians can only win on subcontinent. If you look at our biggest wins - 1983 world cup (England), World Championship of Cricket (Australia), World T20 (South Africa) - all of these came in so called bowler friendly countries. The reason for that is it's our bowlers who need help more than our batsmen. For us to win our bowlers have to fire and the likelihood of our below par bowling attack performing is when we play in bowler friendly conditions.

That's not bad but I prefer some solid players in the line up too, esp when you are playing against good bowling attacks. We have too many players who can be successful at #6. Frankly Karthik appears a much better option than most. If Kohli is in the 11, it's because he is batting in the top 4 if someone like Gambhir is unavailable .... But if the squad size of of 15, I would find it had to fit in either Kohli or Rohit For me bowling is also abt picking up wkts, which is why I would have a leggie in the squad in case I would need to play him. Talking abt left arm spinners, we have Yuvi too (who is not of that quality but can slip in a few overs if he is doing well), who can bowl a few overs My preferred 11 (pre IPL) would be like this: - Sehwag - Gambhir - Panday - Yuvi - Dhoni - Raina - Jadeja - Bhajji - Zak - PK - Nehra Reserves: YP, Mishy, Karthik and Mithun .... Kohli if the squad is of 16

As long as Ishant Sharma is kept away from 20-20 squad I am fine. It would be great to pick youngsters like Pandey as that's how we won in 2007 as well. I think India is unique in respect that youngsters tend to perform better and after they gain "experience" they become crap. Some of the examples - Uthappa, Rohit Sharma, Irfan, Ishant, Balaji etc. Our youngsters start with a boom and then fizzle away so it's better to save them for important matches and tourneys before they get the chance to become "seasoned" and start sucking :haha:
